An Enjoyable Morning 'Working' on a Day Off

I got asked to assist at the firearms range yesterday morning. It was my rostered day off, but I went in anyway.

The task was to zero the Aimpoint sights (Comp M4s) on some new Bushmaster M4s.
The rifles are shared between vehicles and have a generic 50m zero.

We were expecting 120 rifles to be zeroed. 290 turned up. Two vehicles packed to overflowing with brand new rifles and ammo. We had six teams of firer and spotter zeroing the rifles.

They had been bore sighted, so most took only a few shots to get on target and a few more to confirm, but it took four hours to get them all done.

I had earplugs and muffs for that amount of noise.

I used my own Aimpoint magnifier on the rifles I did. Made it much quicker and easier.

And I got lunch supplied!

I was asked not to post any of the photos I took, but if any are released officially I'll put them up.

The M4s usually stay in the safe in the car's boot (trunk) with the hard armour plates.

14.5in Bushmaster M4A3 with Aimpoint Comp M4s and two 20 round mags. The guns are kept loaded (mag inserted, no rounds in chamber) and are fitted with a Magpul sling. The spare mag is carried in a holder attached to the stock.

It is the same throughout the whole country.

The plan is (apparently) that every cop working will have access to their own rifle, pistol and Taser.

We carry them also and have since 1990. Some are issued but the vast majority are officer owned.
I used a colt. M4. With iron sights, which I prefer. We are not limited to two magus and all carry more.
We also carry remington 870 s and most guys carryva back up pistols or revolvers sax
Hey after Vietnam I believe you can never have too much firepower.
