VP9 and Sand "Torture" Test

Well I wanted a different gun and a 9mm, I'm used to Glocks and 1911s, and when I saw some reviews I had to get a VP9. I bought a used one for what I believe was a great deal. Well the trigger is awesome on this gun and so are the ergonomics. Well I watch the infamous MAC video of the VP9 and I will admit the sand malfunctions did concern me. I went to the range today and loaded it with 5rds covered my VP9 fully in sand, and then fired it one handed, i did this 3 times. It performed flawlessly, with crap Federal aluminum cased ammo. I didn't know if anyone would care, but i thought I'd share. I'll post videos if anyone wants to see.

Anytime someone mentions that the VP9 is unreliable 99% of the time they reference that MAC video. I have some gripes with the video due to the unscientific nature of it. I have heard MAC has a bone to pick with HK, but I don't know how reliable that info is. I trust my life with my VP40 when I CC with it in the winter months. Your test just goes to show don't believe everything on youtube(or the internet in general). HK just doesn't make.

MAC's test may not be scientific but then neither are the other ones.

Lest you forget, he tested another VP9 with the new recoil spring, which also failed.

As far has he has something against HK, he has a funny way of showing it by purchasing and giving glowing reviews to the MR762.

Anyway the VP9 is still my home defense gun but people are fooling themselves if they think that HK made the VP9 to the sane stringent designs and service as the USP.

I'm under no illusion that the VP series is equal to the USP series. The VPs are exactly what they are, a nice polymer firearm at a price point most can afford. And no I don't watch his stuff, I don't think his videos are any good, YMMV. I just always hear about that one video when people bring up the VP reliability.

Like I said, I just heard from somewhere he didn't like HK, I guess that person was wrong. Doesn't make any difference to me. Wouldn't watch either way.

MAC's testing was far more thorough and lengthier than this guy's 5 rounds and yet you call MAC's tests unscientific? Give us a break

Make your own scientific tests and post the results

I didn't call his scientific either. And yeah I might this weekend if I don't have to work. I'll grab a couple new VP9s to measure variables. And no it wasn't thorough, you give me a break.

*Edit: He said he did it 3 times with 5 rounds so at least get that part right if you want to criticize.

With the exception of the HK4, in 30 years of HK ownership, there hasn't been one that wasn't excellent.
That includes 7 different VP70z's.

And yes I do prefer the older USP models to the more recent ones. No finger grooves and straighter grip.

But even the new VP pistols are good guns.

As to the torture testing using sand or cow patties, I can say that corn chaff will stop both a Glock 21 and 1911 cold. The USP .45 was able to fire two rounds before stopping. I will also note all three guns were in Safariland roll top holsters and had to be forced out of the holsters.

(Rookie cop, corn silo, bad night across the board)

FYI, the 1911 was the easiest to put back in service.

folks are worrying way too much about this "torture test" BS. if you like the gun and shoot it well then God Bless enjoy it.

personally i'm not a VP9 fan. i owned one and found it lacking in multiple areas but none of these were based on some torture test. if you are planning to roll around in mud and sand then get a bolt action.
+1
40+ years with guns and never had sand or mud in the action.
Can't envision when that would ever be an issue for me?
My VP9 has been 100% reliable when clean and lubed with quality brass cased ammo.
That's good enough for me...
