i just picked up one of these in a trade. Didn't realize what it was till I brought it home. That's when I noticed the Ambi mag release. Did some googling and found out Glock discontinued them due to issues. Is anyone still running one of these?
As far as I know they were only available on the G21SF with the picatinny accessory rail. Mine was extremely stiff, especially from the right hand side. As a left hander, was not useful to me at all since I activate the mag release with my left hand. Not worth doing.
I think I read somewhere Glock offered at one time to replace any of these that were out there. Not sure if it was fiction or reality. They were problematic for many people.
I do think in time they might have some collector value. Anything rare becomes that at some point.
I sold mine after the 3rd time I bumped into something while wearing it and popped the magazine out of the mag well. The last time it dumped the magazine out was while I was mowing, and I didn't notice it. I almost ran over the mag on the next pass. Sold it the next week. Switchable mag release is ok with me but I will never have another Ambi.
I bought one new maybe six years ago. I didn't know about the ambi issue until I read about it a few months later. I ended up calling Glock to discuss it, even though I hadn't had any problems with the gun. I found out they'd change out the frame for a non-ambi one for free, so I sent it in. I had them put Glock night sights on it as well.
It seems to me to be the answer to a question that nobody asked. More problem than solution. As to being collectable, almost anything now a days is collectable to someone on the Internet.

My understanding was they build it for a contract spec, didn't win it and started offering it as an option. Clearly the contract customer made the right decision, as did Glock in offering replacements.
I have had one for years. Never any issues. Works fine. To be a little careful with it, I push up on a magazine before releasing it, especially if it has rounds in it. I also sprayed some light oil on the mechanism inside the frame so to keep it working without stress. I love it. Pic rail. Shoots very accurately and point-of-aim. Prob with switching out the frame would get rid of the Pic rail and the gun then has two different serial numbers.
Noticed it is a very difficult to remove loaded mags from the pistol. I use my guns hard and Cary Glocks for their durability. So I called Glock. They told me to send it back and they'd fix it for free.
