I have a very good condition S&W 686-6 (2 1/ barrel) with adjustable rear target sights that I am considering selling. I have looked around on the net to determine a selling price and having difficult finding the 2 1/2 sizes for sale.
The fact it is a current production lock model hurts value. On the other hand the fact it is the short barrel helps. I would say something around 550-625 in the current market
Yours looks better than mine with your grip. I paid about $800 new a couple years ago, from a NYS gunshop.
If used, from the gunshop, I would have easily paid $600 for yours if excellent condition. Problem is, my gunshop would not have given you $600. That's the whole trick, trying to get your gun to the right buyer who will pay what it is worth.
If yours was a 7 shot or no-lock, and excellant condition, I'd pay $700

I would suggest looking at the type of handgun you have, getting over to GB, and see what they are being bid for. The one with the key locks usually command less. The one pictured above without a key lock commanded some serious money.
Around here I think $500 max.
As mentioned the lock is a big negative in people's minds.
Yes the shorter bbl helps.
I have a friend that's not a gun guy, he traded his older 686 (no lock) 2.5" on a used 3rd Gen Glock 26 straight up.....just HAD to have a Glock.
I told him G26s where everywhere and his gun was worth more....

I normally do that by going to the biggest gun show I can find and walking around with the gun displayed - I'd put it in a cool looking holster and maybe slap a piece of painter's tape on it, with "For Sale" written on it. Carry the original box and papers in your hand.
Only for knowledge two years ago I bought, in Italy, a new 686 "plus" 2,5 inches with stupid lock for 1200,00 Euro.
It was too chunky for CCW expecially during summer's days so I had to sell it for 900,00 Euro.
International gun's prices are very hard to understand!!!
Generally around $100 less than the lowest online "new" price if they're still being made.
Prices are very regional, putting it on gunbroker gives it maximum exposure and somebody somewhere will want it. You might have luck selling it here, or on SW forum, lots of enthusiasts with the itch to buy. I usually try forums first then gunbroker.
I think a 7 shot adds to the used value. I believe people looking for a 2.5" would likely pay a little more for it. Even though factory new they may cost the same.
