Let's just wait and see how good (or bad) TGG's C39 fares over time. It sure looks good and has shot fine so far from what I recall reading.

I don't think he's riding it hard tho as it's not his sole AK.

As I said somewhere else, even Battlefield Vegas said the big flaw in their C39 was barrel life (keyholing). Not really something semi auto shooters must fear... or if they can afford to shoot out a barrel like the FA guys and gals might, they can probably afford another barrel install.

My only concern might be bolt tail deforming due to hammer metal hardness difference, if any.

Maybe.

Depends on hammer/trigger group installed from what I read.

Or how you mod hammer if need be.

But yes, caveat emptor with Century (all vendors actually) based on their past. They sure do and have done a great job importing over the past few decades haven't they? Maybe too good.

Speaking of cast parts it is really not whether the bolt is cast or not but how well. Years ago Browning High Power pistols had forged frames, then when the 40s&w's where beating them to death they changed to cast frames. The cast frames were harder and stronger, but the High Power Fan boys went nuts for a few years. Ok so Century is putting out a cat bolt. Version 1 (C39) may have had soft bolts, does that mean that Version 2 (C39v2) does also? Only time will tell. I for one have issues with sending money to Commie Bloc countries. My Parents were refugies from the Ukrane, I spent the 23 years in the military facing the eastern block countries. I have two AK's A Chinese Polytech underfolder and a US made C39v2. Both work fine with no issues of any kind.

Still waiting to see if any of the C39v2 models have bolt carrier tail peening/mushrooming @ the Tapco hammer to a large enough degree to cause worry or potential harm to user...

MrGuns&Gear (plouffedaddy) has several thousand rounds thru his... and I haven't heard many if any, disparaging comments.
Same with Jim Fuller. (good bang for buck)
Same with MAC (tho he does say a little dinging on bolt carrier tail... meh)

It's not like they are full auto or Battlefield Vegas rentals with tens of thousand rounds thru them by tourists monthly.

Darn good looking American mfg rifles that just seem to run and run and run...

Well, dodged certain death again today, put 180 rounds through my gen 1 and not once did it blow up in my face. Having evaded the Grim Reaper yet again, I'm doubling down and not cleaning it, will make probably the 5th range trip with no maintenance. I do squirt some RemOil in the action before firing, which was blessed by a drunk sax playing Episcopal minister, maybe that is why it has managed to go about 12k rounds to date.

I even took it out to 300 yards, point of aim was the head on a steel silhouette. The guy spotting for me said it was impacting between neck and chest, 25 of 30 rounds hit steel.

I'm tempted to replace the G2 trigger, while a nice short break is still pretty heavy.

A few years ago, everyone was in a panic because the MIM parts in their Glocks were going to dissolve into powder over night. Amazingly, mine have not done that. Still, every time out with a Glock at the range, there's that chance that the MIM parts will all fail simultaneously, and I will be left holding some useless black Tupperware in my hand.

Glad you survived you lucky sob. I also took my life to a next level of danger and shot 250 rounds of ammo through my C39v2 with the certified marshmello hard swisscheese casted bolt. Something must really be wrong! After 2,250 rounds I absolutly cannot find the promised deformations, missing peices or horrible wear marks. I feel cheated! How can I complain, moan and groan and cast invective at my AK's maker!!!! Life is just unfair. I guess thats what happens when you try to "Make America Great Again".

plp,
Reading over at the AKFiles where anything Century made by their drunk monkeybeavers who build those gawdawful killing machines is known for a fact to be certain death! Or Worse!!!, suggestion from one who hateth not as much, perhaps... is to check headspace just to gauge wear at lockup...

Don't know if that's bad advice, probably sage advice actually... but who has a 762x39 go/nogo lying around, other than builders of AK kits?

You're a lucky man to be alive to report in sir. Especially after 12K thru the dreaded Gen 1!!!

ComBloc B4 MAGA!... or something. muahahaha

I was just thinking about all of the "Net-Haters" Years ago HK put out a pistol called the P-7, it was a squeeze cocker (no jokes please) and was hated by one and all because it was weird. Today it is a highly sought after collectors model costing $2-3,000 a pop used. The first Glock 17 gen1 model was laughted at as the "Plastic Gun". Early Glocks also had their birthing pains with broken rails and cracked frames. Today we have lots of bias in the net review world as well. I just saw a You Tube review of an Arsenal 107R by Rob Ski where he dismissed deformations on the rear of the bolt as minor even though it looked a lot worse than what was seen on the C39. Also when they drove over the frame and it bent inward causing a gap between the frame and the sight rail and he said well we will have to follow this and see if it makes any difference. Had it been a C39 or a DDI it would have been certain proof that the weapon was deadly. Arsenals get the pass though even with the same defects. I like watching his tests but they are a bit extreme and I don't think they reflect everyday shooters experience. Even in combat I don't remember driving over, or dragging my weapon by a string through a muddy stream or doing pushups on the mag.

I love AKOU, Rob Ski is the man! And yes, they get really out there with their tests. One of the reasons I bought the C 39 was after watching his torture test of the first generation rifle, and the positive review he gave it.

Those torture tests of Rob's prove only which gun passes his torture tests. The real test is a lot more expensive and that is round count to failure. I'd bet that just about any AK built to design specs will outlast its owner. The AK is one tough weapon by design, but lots of changes by manufacture for cost saving or design changes are a problem. For example the Yugoslavian OPAP has a 1.5mm stamped receiver while the newer NPAP has a 1mm one. Both still fine guns but a change in the wrong direction in my opinion. The fact that milled frames can only be had from a few companies is sad. The C39v1&2 are unique in that they are milled and still faily affordable. I know lots of haters out there will not even look at them but they do perform, they are built well and can be the nucleous of a project gun that will be better than anything out there.

I've been watching this thread for months. Two days ago,I bought a new C39v2-guess I just volunteered to become a 'beta tester.'

We will see how it goes.
It will go just fine, you will absolutely love it! :)

I have now over 2,000 rounds through my C39 V2. No feeding or extraction failures of any kind. The only wear is loss of finish on some areas with no metal deformities. For the money I don't think you can buy a better milled frame AK. I do wish it could be had with a cleaning rod and my version 2 did not come with a side rail for a scope mount. I bought one and now I need to find someone to install it.

Put 180 rounds through the c39v2 this morning. Can say already that I don't like the trigger that much- not as good as the Tapco in my old SAR-1, certainly. Mine has the wood furniture and scope rail. Hopefully going to put several thousand rds through it this spring and report back on my findings.

The picture( if I could get the thing to show up on this $&@@ site) is of the C39 alongside my trusty M1A1 SOCOM -which has a Trijicon MRO for the optic.[emoji41]
