Anyone have one? Thinking of getting one because I think it's tough looking with the two tone blk/gen. Not for everyone that's for sure. Some won't like the rail or the color. Before you say get a TRP, I've had one. Anyone?
No replies but wanted to update. Couldn't wait, just orderd one from GrabAGun. I think its going to be a great shooter with the front weighted by the rail. It has good review. This is just a sometime range gun and another addition to my other home security family.
bac, i've seen pics of your impressive collection, and read your buyer's guide numerous times. I dont know as a purist standpoint with a rail matters to a collector? But things progress, from watches to automotive they change, yet stay true to what they are.I would normally not want a rail gun but since I liked this gun I figure the rail is just a bonus, who knows maybe one day I'll want to put a light on it.
A good friend of mine has one, I've shot it on a few occasions. To my knowledge, he has not had any issues with it. He runs Wilson Combat ETM mags in it.
Thanks for your replies. It got delivered yesterday, it's every bit as solid and nice as the TRP I once owned. While front strap checkering looks nine this gun grips well with the g10 and looks nice with with the cut outs on it. While very nice looking, it looks all business as it was meant to be.
I just bought one about two months ago and only have a couple of hundred rounds of ball through it. Currently, I am stuck in CA and limited as to selection of 1911 with rail. The mc op worked 100% is reasonably accurate, and I think a good value for the money. I have three higher end 1911 and feel the SA is in a good price point. Mine has the pachmayr (SP?) grips which I am familiar with. The factory mags work perfectly with ball and 230HST and 185HST. Having a house full of expensive mags, that sort of surprised me.
A bit of a late reply, but I've had mine for a couple years now.. It's the second generation MC Operator. No it's not as smooth and tight as the TRP, but it is a fantastic pistol made better than Springfield's other Loaded 1911's. The only other 1911 in SA's line up that compares to it is the Range Officer Operator that is built on the same assembly line as the TRP without the bells and whistles. Again the RO being built to TRP standards makes it smoother and tighter than the MC Operator.
On another note: The smaller RO's namely the champion is not built to TRP specs, though the full size RO and RO Operators are... Congrats on your MC Operator. I daily carry mine.
Thanks for your reply.Although I haven't found time to shoot mine yet, I'm very pleased with the quality of the build and slide to frame fit.Having owned a new TRP I'm not so sure about all the hype on on it being built better than the MC operator aside from the front and back strap checkering.I have a new Wilson Combat mainspring housing to get rid of the ILS lock. I don't see the point on people buying the MC model to save money over the TRP and than change things.I like it the way it is, other wise I'd have bought another TRP.

I love it the way it is also. Unfortunately for me I got in a little fender bender while motoring and it, the mc operator, glided on the concrete (wasn't that bad anway) lol.. Easy fix, but I'm using it the way it is right now. Maybe later i'll have it tuned up and cerakoted this year.
I'm surprised you don't feel/see the difference between it and the TRP. Unless I understood that wrong...
I see the difference and because of the checkering it feels different and I believe the MC is heavier? it been awhile since I had it. But I like the look of the rail.

TRP Operator is heavier because of the bull barrel. I just hate the fact that it comes with target rear sights. What I meant by feel and see the difference wasn't the obvious, but more along the lines of fitment, smoothness, and tightness.
Tx, You maybe right. I don't have both side by side and it's been awhile. TRP are said by many to be one of the best production guns from SA. I look at the fit on the slide to frame, and its great. I don't know if the extra so called attention is worth the money? Some won't buy the MC because of the rail or color, and want the machine checkering. Like I said, I just like the way it looks. Is it the best 1911 I've owned? Probably not. And I've owned Colt,SA, and a new Dan Wesson CCO that was sweet. I'm always buying according to what I like at the time, having also owned a Sig 220 and HK45c.It would be awesome to have all the fine guns I've owned all at the same time(now) and that includes S&W and Ruger. I still keep and depend mostly on my Glock 21 though.
Yes it is and thank you. I am glad to say it has never jammed.
