I am sure that anyone who has bought guns over the years has bought one that was a real downer. What was the gun you bought that made you feel like you wasted your money and why?
Mine was the Sig Mosquito. I only bought it because it was on sale for $239.00, which seemed like a good price until I shot it. It was the biggest piece of junk that I have ever owned. I tried all different kinds of ammo, oils, cussing, and video watching. The worst part was when I wanted to get rid of it. I almost couldn't give it away. Everyone else but me already knew it was junk.
I would never buy another, unless it was under $25.00.
H&K P2000, that thing got more airline miles that year than I did, no more H&K's for me (although my USP's were generally OK, just over priced).
Springfield EMP (in 9mm) was a dead heat disappointment to the P2000. It was one of the first and really a problem child. Springfield cheerfully sent it back and forth multiple trips, finally got it working. By that time, I had completely lost confidence in the gun. A friend who pined for it since the day I got it bought it from me for a fire sale price and still carries it daily, no issues for him.
G26 gen4. The thing was a jam-o-matic even with FMJ ammo. I must have put close to 1K rounds through it thinking it would eventually get broken in and settle down. I tried various brands and bullet weights, but it never did work right.
Kahr PM9. It felt like the trigger pull was 5 miles long. I might have kept it, but it didn't fit my hand well and had a few too many FTRB/FTE/FTF's for my liking. I admit, it could have been my meat hooks jamming it up, but everything all added together, it was my worst experience with a gun so widely praised, and that looked so "right" on paper.
Me too. I really wanted to like it. I got mine when they first came out and it had some barrel peening already after only about 300 rounds, and it was always jamming up even after that break in period.
After that, I converted my G-27 to 9mm and in 10 years have never had any issues. Even with my "fluffy" cast loads. I like carrying 10+1 better anyway. I'm a big fanboy of the Gen 3 Glocks. They always work. :bunny:
Marlin Model 60. 2003 mfg gun that would never reliably feed. It is still sitting muzzle down in a garbage can in my moms garage next to rakes shovels and tomato stakes...I'm not kidding.
The worst firearm purchase i made would be a Sig P250 i bought for the wife.It had the longest, hardest trigger pull of any gun i've ever owned. It was an expensive, miserable piece of junk i sold for a huge loss.
AMT Hardballer. 4 rounds into the first magazine, it locked up so tight that nobody could get it open. I sent it back to AMT with my receipt and they sent me a check. No explanation, no "sorry", but at least I got my money back.
- In 85 I bought an Astra Mod 80 in .38 Super. Jammomatic was the best adjective I would use to describe it. I may have melted it into molten goo just because I was bored. I had a lot of time on my hands back then.
- Around 2005 I bought a Taurus 650 CIA .357. That firearm taught me a lot, first, verify your new gun works before you carry it, and be suspect of Taurus. First time at the range, the cylinder would not rotate after the first shot. It went back to Taurus who supposedly fixed it. After it came back fixed, I traded or sold it.
Bought used at a decent price, very accurate, and a nice, easy shooting weapon. It'd be a great gun if it would feed reliably. I've tried everything to evaluate/solve the problem, but for some reason it just randomly decides to not feed a round. Might be once in 7, once in 21, whatever. Range gun only.
Upon further reflection (as I posted about my Marlin Mod 60 misfortune also), despite many loyal and faithful users, I've owned two Ruger 10/22s and didn't like either one. 1st one was tricked out with HB, scope, custom trigger and shot very inconsistently and 2nd was accurate enough but unreliable. Aside from a 1966 Rem 550-1 I inherited from my father, I steer clear of semi-auto 22s.
I haven't sold a gun in probably 20 years. I've given quite a few to my 2 sons though. Just left a P320C at my LGS to be sold. Not sure if it was disappointment or just that it never lived up to my expectations.
Marlin 1897 22 lever gun. Never fed correctly. Sent it back to the factory twice. I finally sent it to a Cowboy Action gunsmith. He said that the lever pivot point was drilled in the wrong place. Sent it back to the factory with that information and they sent it back with a new bolt (nothing wrong with the first bolt). Still didn't work. Traded it in on a Henry. No regrets.
The Phoenix .22LR kit was the pits for me. It was a well designed pistol with interchangeable barrels, but their obsession with safety devices made it a PITA to shoot. the Taurus 9mm pistol
My Intertec Tec-22 is terrible. Bought during the Klinton ban. What a jam-o-matic POS. One day it will try to fix it. It was cheap and I can't bring myself to sell it to some chump so I keep it.
HK P30L
Bought it at what I considered a steal ($759 at CDNN) and although it felt great in the hand and was accurate, it had the longest trigger pull of any semi auto I've ever fired. I was a bit of an HK fanboy before that, owning a USP compact and Tactical in .45, but I couldn't get over that crap trigger so I sold it within a couple months.
A WASR I bought "new." Constant failures to feed. Sold it a few months later after unsuccessfully trying to troubleshoot it. (I'm not a gunsmith, nor do I play one on the interwebs.)
Second place goes to a cheap Philippines-sourced Commander-sized 1911 I bought new. It would fail to feed every other magazine or so. Tried some of my Wilson Combat mags, but that didn't help. Took it home, replaced the recoil spring, cleaned it, lubed it, and took it back to the range. Made it to about 100 rounds before it hiccupped again. Traded it off.
The trigger was super long and heavy. Safe to carry but lousy for target work. I thought the full-size weight would help with the recoil but it bucks worse than my G20.
What most disappoints me is that TTAG said the DAO trigger was great.
