For those who have multiple pistols, which one is your go to all out pistol to get it done. I believe in one gun and committed to practice with that gun being a Glock 23 Gen 3. What say you.

For the longest time, when I was carrying a service revolver on-duty, and much of the time off-duty, and a Commander the rest of the time off-duty ... I'd have answered this sort of question by saying I'd choose one of my .357 or .44 Magnum revolvers.

No magazines needed.

Either Magnum caliber revolver can use 2 calibers (.38 Spl/.357Mag & .44 Spl/Mag), both of which were a lot more commonly found in stores than their pistol cousins.

Matter of fact, either would still serve just fine in today's world.

I have three "go-to" pistols: M&P40 (15+1=16 rounds of 180 gr HST), P320 40 Full Size (14+1=15 rounds of 180 gr HST), and a G21SF with (13+1=14 rounds of 230 gr Ranger T).

P320 launches 180 gr HST smooth, soft, and fast, with deadly accuracy

One thing that cracks me up are people that don't test their SD gun on proper SD ammo but have strong opinions.

Eg had a range trip with SW fanboy with an MP 40... Nice nice I own the compact version in 9mm.

Bottom line, he had never shot HP or +p ammo out of it i had some NATO spec ammo and we shot some out of our guns and he was shocked that the cheap range ammo had so different recoil. His gun didn't like the Magtech HP ammo... His choice for SD-- thought it was too expensive to check that ammo as the gun did OK with range ammo. Not a slam on Magtech or SW. He went from pontificating to learning earring his ignorance. Because ...

Duh... Check it out.

Hand him the PX4 and after the NATO ammo his eyes were opened. Yes, it soaks up recoil better. I'll start another thread on the hollow point angle.

For a long time my response to this question was a Ruger Blackhawk .44. Carrying and shooting nearly daily at various ranges out to 100 yards builds familiarity and competence.

However, the G23 is gradually taking over the (fantasy) role as it is "customized", ammo is developed and familiarity is gained.

I have a SHTF Backpack! It already has 590 rounds of CCI 22 Magnum and a Kel-Tec PMR-30. The same pack also has 150 Rounds of 357 and my 6" GP-100. I'm a cheater I have always been planning on two.

EDIT: maybe I'll add a fourth PMR magazine and another box of 357

Don't mean to be Scrooge here but just because you have the $$ doesn't mean you MUST spend it. Hang on to it until the day comes that you see something there is No Question in your mind about. I sold my Powder Springs M10 in the Fall of 2014 and still have approx. 50% of the money. Did buy something that I had wanted bad enough I was tasting it. A Tavor. Gave it a Geissele Super Sabra trigger and absolutely LOVE it. NO regrets on the spending here! :)
Never let money "burn a hole in your pocket".

I love Glock pistols, but the .45acp is my favorite round, so I carry a model 30.
My first experience with Glock was seeing of if the plastic guns, that my new Chief was carrying, given to him by his Dept. Upon retiring.
He showed it to me one note, and asked what I thought, I pulled out the Trash can, and said Chief, that's what I think about those things.
Oh, forgot to mention, I was also Armorer in about every weapon, and also firearms instructor for our county for about 25 years.
At that time we were carrying revolvers, and he wanted to go to pistols, so I ordered in Glocks, Smiths and Rugers in the 40 and 45 caliber, and was trying to talk him into the .45acp.
After getting them in, I took them to our range to try them out, and was asked while getting ready to leave, by my Lieutenant, not to get any PLASTIC GUNS on the Dept.
I said, " don't worry, as long as I'm running the show, we'll never have one. He loved it.
Went down and shot them, and thought to myself, " I just lied to the Lt., I loved the Glock, its feel , weight and shooting.
There was hardly any recoil.
Next day I took the Chief and Captain down, and they shot them, I won the battle on the .45s and we got the Glock 21s for the officers, and the 30s for the Chief, Capt and detectives.
Still carry those.

I had previously carried G17 or G 22a but last year I bought a new Gen 3 - 21. I've tried all type ammo and settled on Hornady Critical Duty. 28th your vast knowledge I would appreciate your opinion. What's your EDC SD round for the G 21? Thank you sir for your service. Police Lives Matter.

Actually I do hold a pistol almost sideways when I shoot weak hand only; it brings the sights more in line with my master eye. It looks like you are fairly new to GlockTalk. Hang around a bit; you might learn a few things.

I've also helped out teaching SWAT teams. Notice the guy behind the shield.

A G 17L in an appendix crossdraw holster, canted to Mexican carry angle. Out of the way for doing stuff and the fastest draw I have. I'm not saying it is the fastest draw there is, just the fastest I'm capable of doing.
I just got back from the range and was reminded yet again why this is such a great handgun. A lady who I met there asked to shoot it, and if her handloads were OK to use. I said sure, as she had been shooting an M&P earlier with the handloads and had no issues.

When her husband came back from the rifle range, she asked if he could shoot it also, and of course said yes. He was a very good shot, said he wished he could back up to 25 yards and try it at distance. We had a pretty full house, so were limited to the 7 yard mark but told him if he will let me know, if they wanted to meet there on a weekday we could move back if nobody else was there.

When we got ready to leave, he said thanks loads, now she is wanting to see if we can find one online.
