I did it and man, was it a good pick!

I'm in love.

Again.

Thanks! Although I'm still a relative noob to the firearms scene, I can really tell a difference between the G43 and the P30SK in terms of performance.

The G43 seems much snappier in comparison to the P30SK and with the stock rear site which isn't a night sight, and the front night sight, the G43 takes a little more time to acquire the target.

The P30SK came with Tritium night sights which I found during my range time yesterday, are far easier to acquire the target than the G43. Good thing I've already bought replacement sights for the G43! Can't wait to put them on.

I read an article which equated the P30SK to the BMW. BMW is known for high performance and technology in its design. Upon further reading, and now using the P30SK, I have to agree. I can appreciate the difference between my DD which is the high performance X5 equipped with the M Sport and M Performance package. The G43 in copmarison seems like that highly reliable Toyota Camry. Not a whole lot to look at, isn't the greatest in terms of technology, but does the job and does it well.

I'm happy with both purchases and think my next purchase will have to be a .40 cal.

Thanks! As I've been trying out different makes and models, I'm starting to find what I like. I have relatively small but very strong hands, arms, and shoulders, so I imagine that a person's physique probably has a lot to do with what they do or don't like when it comes to handguns.

EDIT: Funny thing... It took me a while to get over the idea of an external hammer but as soon as I started shooting it yesterday, I completely forgot it was there.

Would you mind sharing your thoughts on what your preferences are? I'm kinda curious since you're not particularly impressed with the 30SK or Glock. Thanks again!

I prefer all metal guns, be they all steel or steel/aluminum.

Also I prefer guns with a higher degree of mechanical accuracy even though they're still service types.

To tell you the truth, I don't know. Some guns I like and some I don't.

I'm not too particularly brand specific but I do own more guns in some brands than other.

I can tell you which guns I don't particularly care for:

1. Glocks of various types other than the Gen1 Glock 17 just because it was the original.

2. It's easier to list which HK I like than I don't like: I like the USP series. I don't care for the P2000, P30/30SK, HK45, etc. Essentially the new non-USP series. I don't particularly get gaga-eyed over the old P9S or P7s either.

3. Don't particularly care for XD, XDS, XDM, XD 2.0 or whatever.

4. Smith & Wesson M&P don't exactly do much for me either.

5. None of the SIG Sauer plastics do anything for me, not the SP and not the current P320.

I do like some plastic guns:

1. Walther PPQ
2. Steyr series
3. I "kind of" like the VP9 but not too crazy about it.

Since that this is an HK thread, I'll tell you why I am not too crazy about the non-USP plastic HK pistols. Somehow I can't seem to shoot any of these guns with a high degree of mechanical accuracy even though my USPF9 and USPC45 are laser accurate.

These non-USP guns also don't seem to have the good heft of the USPs either. Machine work on the steel parts also don't seem to have the same precision and high finish of the USP either.

Upon saying all these things, I do own a lot of these guns. I don't quite call myself a collector, but more of an opportunistic hoarder. Sometimes I buy guns on impulse - let's make that lots of times I buy guns on impulse. It's the equivalent of "oooh, shiny..."

:wow: :headscratch: :faint:  :dunno: :eyebrow: :innocent: :nailbiting:

Not sure, but I seem to recall a strong bias towards Colt and FN. :dunno:

I just picked one up last week. Had been looking for a while but hadn't seen one in the flesh. Took it to the range the same evening and very impressed. I have all have P30s in 9 and 40. I think they're definitely the best out of the box production pistol on the market. Excellent ergo's and stock trigger. Congrats

So my thought to mosey into the HK .40 cal would be met with your approval?

So after about 3 visits to the range (~ 150 rounds each visit), I cleaned my own collection. Since it was my first time, it took me nearly 3 hours in total because I spent a lot of time inspecting the guts to see how these things work internally. I noticed that the Glock 43 was MUCH easier to clean than the two H&Ks (VP9 and P30SK). The inners of the H&Ks have a lot of nooks and crannies that pick up a bunch of crud. It's amazing how dirty these things get after only a few trips. From now on, I'm going to give these a light cleaning after each trip because of the amount of buildup I saw on each. It was awful. Thankfully, my husband's gun cleaning collection was vast so I had every tool one can imagine, laid out on a table in a room which we've recently dubbed, 'the gun room'. I now have a permanent cleaning station at my disposal.

By the way, regarding the cleaning products used on H&Ks and specifically for the P30SK since it was more difficult to clean than the VP9 - any tips on cleaning products, cleaning frequency, things to watch out for while cleaning? I had watched a few cleaning videos before I gave it a go myself and found it to be quite simply to execute, but time consuming. I was thinking of picking up an ultrasonic cleaner but not sure if this is advised. The manual says you can fully immerse parts in a cleaning solution but I'm somewhat leery of the vibration potentially causing things to loosen up that shouldn't be loosened up.

I guess I'm stricken by a little noob fear. Any advice you veterans may have would be well received on any aspect of general maintenance of these amazing firearms. Thanks!

If you want to get the crud out from books and crannies then soak the gun in dishwashing detergent and hot water. As hot as your water heater can generate.

Then rinse off with clean hot water again. With that much heat, the gun tends to dry itself. If not then squirt it with some oil.

But seriously, guns don't need babying. I knocked off the crazy military cleaning routine a long time ago.

We spent about 3 hours shooting steel targets today and had an absolute blast! First time for me with a timer and limited rounds. Range instruction was phenomenal and this is the safest I've ever felt at a range. Definitely going back to this place. It was about 35 mins from my house but well worth the drive.

I was able to shoot at 30 ft and hit 5 of 6 targets in about 8.8 seconds which considering that I just started shooting in January, is pretty good for me. I've never shot that far back either. Most of my practice has been at the 5yd and 7yd distance. So being new to the 30 ft mark, I was pretty proud of my results. I was using my H&K VP9 and not my P30SK though. I knew we'd have smaller targets at a further distance so I wanted to do my best. I've been shooting the best with this particular choice so it was right for me today.

Proud moment for me was when I noticed that I was doing significantly better than this poor guy who just bought a Glock and has clearly been around firearms for a while. He missed 6 targets consistently and got so frustrated, he wanted to know if anyone wanted his gun - FREE. It looked like a Glock 19. :( Too bad for him. His buddy stepped right up and ping'd off 6 of 6, then shot the 7th at 40' with no problems. That guy was good. He rarely missed anything all day.

Great fun. Next visit will be a different H&K choice. I'm keeping the Glock 43 in the bag for up close and personal practice. It does nothing for my confidence. :)

I like my P30sk, especially with the 15 round mag and spacer I use at the range. Nice gun, but a little chunky. I prefer the Glock 43 here in Florida for CC.

I checked out the P30sk and was impressed yet I also felt it was similar to the SA mod 2 .45acp as relates to size/chunkiness. Then I learned about the coming VP9sk.... that might be a really nice fit. Believe it is just starting to ship...
