I have been looking for a 2nd generation G17 for quite some time now but all I have found have been too expensive... I listed a wanted to buy ad on Armslist months ago with not much response. Last week I got an email from someone locally that offered one in fairly good condition for $325 and it even came with 3 extra brand new still in the package Gen 4 mags and a grip plug... Needless to say I was quick to jump on this deal. From the serial number dating it appears to be from March of 1990 as it has a two letter serial number starting with LU. Needless to say I am very happy with this purchase.
I recently purchased a Gen2 from Cabelas for $400. My gun guy tells me it appears to be lightly fired and never apart. Came with tupperware and books and cleaning rod and brush. I talked them down from $499. Considering it was Cabelas, I felt I got an excellent deal
It always irritates me how places want so much money for a used gun that's 10 to 20 years old. I see a lot of used Gen 3 going for almost the same price as a new Gen 4.. I have owned many Gen 3 and Gen 4 but have always liked the look of the Gen 2 models.
I think people will pay more for a Glock with the original Tenifer treatment. I was following a Gen 2.5 on auction that's up to $575 with six hours to go. Gen2 19's are going for pretty good prices also. I have a Gen4 26 that I will get rid of when I find a older tenifer 26, I also like the triggers on the older guns.
I also have a Gen2 19 which was my first Glock purchase years ago. It was a previous LE weapon that looked to have a million miles on it when purchased. I replaced the sights as they weren't illuminating and replaced springs. All Glock's are good shooters, but it shoots exceptionally well. There's no telling how many rounds I've put through it since I've had it. it's definitely my favorite. It didn't have the box or books, but I sourced a container several years ago. I've looked on and off for the books but yet to source. If anyone is holding, I'm interested.
"LOUEY" looks great or "LEW", maybe "LU" if your Chinese, I would change out the springs, add a specific 2nd gen extended slide stop, and night sights.
Ammo and plenty of it would be next and you have a great gun.
Very nice, I picked one up last week for $350 and was thrilled with that deal, it is a LS serial number. Still has the original black internals. It's my first gen 2, took a long time looking to find a good deal.
Great deal! I just bought a G17 Gen4 from a friend that had never been fired for $400 and I thought that was a great deal myself. My purchase sat in his gun safe for a few years before I got it.
