Ruger LCR? S&W M&P 340? The new Kimber or Colt snub-nosed revolvers?

What do you folks think?

LCR for the win. i am huge fan of this gun. after getting an LCR-38 i sold my 442. the LCR just fits me perfectly, super light, great trigger. like post #16 above I installed the hogue boot grip. makes it easier to conceal but still shoots great.

the LCR vs. J-frame thing is very subjective. no doubt the J-frames are good guns, but I have owned several of them and they just never fit my hand correctly. on the contrary the S&W K- and N-frames fit my hand great. i just never liked the J-frame, but i know people who much prefer the J-frame over an LCR. my feeling would be shoot them both to see, but personally i'm an LCR fanboy.

it's also very easy to install a tritium XS dot sight on the LCR. can do it at home w a punch, hammer and the included loctite. easy job.

if you want a really soft shooting LCR, consider getting the 357 model. it's ~3-4 oz heavier, so shooting 38+P out of this model is a bit softer than the lighter 38 model. under no condition would i opt to shoot 357 mag. in such short barrel it's just not worth it for me. YMMV.

Both the .357 and 9mm LCR' s weigh 17.3 oz, the 38 weighs around 14.6 IIRC.

I'd have to give the nod to the M&P340 for the best sight/picture. Take a look at one.

The S&W Pro 640 has a better trigger.

If you have a 442, the most economical option is a Wilson or Apex kit. I found with 1000 rounds that the trigger smoothed out a lot. I'm used to heavy triggers anyways, though.

The Kimber would be a great option as that has a 6 round capacity. They run high for revolvers in the $800 range but they're stainless and have the capacity.

I have the LCR .357 that I only shoot .38 in. I had the .38 LCR and sold it for the .357. I wanted more weight to reduce recoil. I really like the LCR .357. Shooting +P 135 SB Gold Dot is not unpleasant. For some reason this is one of my favorite handguns. The trigger "pull" is great. The trigger "reset" isn't and it takes practice to not short stroke the trigger. This is the only downside IMO. Many who don't like the LCR and go with or back to the J frame is due to the potential short stroke. Shooting it is the opposite of shooting a Glock from the reset point of the Glock trigger. I find the LCR in 9mm interesting due to cheap ammo. I can buy 9mm in bulk around 10 cents a round cheaper than .38 in bulk. Having said all this about the LCR I would still like to have a Smith 640 with trigger work and XS Big Dot. But when I look at the cost of the 640 and only five rounds I can't justify the cost-I have a 43, the LCR and LCP already.

I have the .357 LCR with a Novak MegaDot night sight installed at the factory. Replaced the original tamer grip with the Ruger Boot Grip.

Great gun. The newer post 2013 guns don't have the internal lock mechanism in the grip which saves about a half oz in weight as to does the boot grip, another half oz in weight which brings you to a .357 Magnum snub nose revolver that weighs 16.1 oz unloaded. Not bad, considering the meat of the weapon is stainless steel where it matters.

There are lighter options in .357 Magnum with scandium-aluminum frames instead of steel or polymer/steel combos;

The S&W 340 M&P has a front night sight and weighs aprox 13.3 oz

The S&W 340 PD is even lighter at 11.4 oz but has a titanium cylinder which has a few caveats regarding cleaning and ammo selection. No night sight installed on this model.

Ruger SP101 2" Bob hammer shoot great up to 10 yards and a good pocket gun can shoot 38 spl or 357loads

I'm shocked by that. To me SCCY has the worst trigger I ever pulled. It's true you have to find what works best for YOU. There is no universal" best". My favorite trigger is Glock but to me the best for the price is Cannick. May have misspelled that

I have the S&W M&P 340 with tritium front sight and love it. Also have the S&W 642 for the wife and a wonderful shooter it is. Hickock45 has a video on the 340 and granted, the man is extremely talented but an 80 yard shot out of a 1 and 7/8" pistol? The man is just amazing.

I have a circa 2007 Ruger LCR, that rides in my left front pants pocket.
It was a factory, XS ( Big Dot ) front sight version.
It is phenomenonly smooth. ( as compared to MIM part and lock J frames )
But is quite a beast with serious ammunition.
It is carried with Speer Gold Dot 135gr. +P Short Barrel.
I've kiddingly said, if Glock were to produce a revolver, this is it!
I am so dismayed at the poor quality of later Smiths, that I would actually buy another Ruger and would have the stainless Charter Arms on the short list.
The jury is still out on the new Colt's revolvers...
I've actually always liked the Charter Arms revolvers going back to the 1980's iterations.
They have coil springs, actual sights and are usually very smooth in double action pull.
Truth be told, if weight is not on the requirement list, you can't get a better smoother revolver then an older Ruger SP101. ( the older .38 Spl ones are smooth as butter )
Just say'in
