Don't laugh, but I bought the wrong gun.

Yesterday, on the way home from lunch, a friend and I stopped at a local sporting goods store that's closing down. Every thing is on sale, so we wanted to see if they had anything we could use.

In the gun case I spotted a SIG P938.
I already have two P938's but this one was a little different. It has a longer barrel/slide.
I don't have a "use" for it, as it is too long for my pocket carry. But I thought it would be fun to shoot, as I enjoy shooting the other 9mm P938's.

About half way through filling out the 4473 and talking about the two 9mm P938's I already have, the salesman said,
"You do realize this is a .22?" SAY WHAT??
I said, "That's a P938 and P938's are 9mm".
The salesman showed me the gun (I hadn't actually looked at the gun because I already knew what a P938 is) and on the slide was "SIG SAUER P938-22.
I have never heard of the P938-22 but here it was.

I thought, what the heck, 9mm or 22 the P938 is a good gun and the 22 should be fun to shoot. So I finished the 4473 and brought the gun home.

Just before dark I had a chance to run a couple mags through it.
Yeah, I think I'll enjoy this little shooter. :)

I have found a down side. I like extra magazines and these SIG 22 mags are plastic (which may be OK) and expensive ($35+).

My pocket carry SIG P938 is on the bottom.

Crazy! I hadn't heard of or looked for a 938 in .22lr. I would actually like to have one, but wish it was the same barrel length as the regular 938. I have purchased a .22lr conversion kit for my SIG P226, and that seems like a fun plinker!

Congrats on your accident!

Funny!

Yeah, I'd rather the length be the same as the 9mm, to somewhat duplicate shooting the 9mm pistols.
But I understand, in general, having 22 barrels longer than center fire.

I have since run across, but haven't look in detail, that SIG has a 22 conversion kit for the P938 9mm.

The wind chill is 24F but I had to shoot the gun some.

Ran through about ten magazines of about five different brands of ammo.

The gun doesn't like anything approaching "standard" velocity. The slide doesn't recoil far enough to reliably feed the next round.
I suspect this will improve when I get it broken in a little.

I was shooting some mags back to about 20 yards. The gun seems right accurate but I'll be able to better tell when I get the rear sight adjusted and I'm not shaking from the cold wind.

I heard about those a while back, but nothing since. Also supposed to be a conversion kit for the regular 938 and a threaded barrel. Both would be cool.

I do wonder if they're actually made by Sig or are airsoft trash like the Mosquito.

I think they are made by Sig. They offer a "classic" P220, 226, and 229. In my opinion, they work better than a lot of "conversations."

Seriously, that's pretty good thing to happen. One can never really go wrong owning another reliable .22 gun.

i have a 22lr slide for the P938 but sold it because no last shot hold open. on last round the magazine acts to hold the slide in a partially retracted position. it's pretty retarded. if you pull the mag out the slide will go home. basically it makes mag changes awkward. other than that it seemed well executed by sig.

The sale price for the 22, OTD was $530. I think I saved about a hundred dollars.

That P938 in the picture was $790 a year ago. I knew at the time it was probably a little over overpriced but I wanted it.
About a month ago a lady friend bought the same gun for a hundred less. It took us several months to find that model. I don't know if it's that popular or SIG just doesn't make that many.

I bought this, my first P938 on 5/14 for $541 but it was a like new trade in.
I shoot it a fair amount.

I'm shooting the gun more today.
With a full (10 round) loaded mag and a round in the chamber, the first and maybe 2nd and sometimes 3rd round may not eject or feed.

The problem seems to be, the upward push of the rounds in the mag cause enough drag on the bottom of the slide to prevent it from coming all the way to the rear.

If the mag is loaded with 6-8 rounds there usually isn't a problem.
The same with different ammo. Some HV functions fine, some doesn't.

I think this will work out as the gun is used.
But in the meantime I'm taking note of which ammo is trouble free and I'll shoot that until the gun loosens up.

I ran across something interesting this morning.
I have a fair amount of 22 ammo. Some I've had for a good while but don't get around to shooting it. Instead, shooting such as WalMart 550 bulk pack.

That TG&Y store closed over twenty years ago. As I vaguely recall, everything was marked down and I bought a bunch of this ammo for about 95 cents a box, and I think I bought a nice rifle scope right cheap to.

Funny thing is the P938-22 functions fine with this old ammo, while a lot of new ammo is weak.

Wow, when I was a kid, TG&Y was like my Walmart. I haven't seen a TG&Y in over 30 years.

Ouch, that's steep. Paid around $600 for my 938, and have seen them as low as $500 when places like Palmetto have sales. Of course the sale models vary, but still.
