gen 1 / 1st gen / first generation / first gen

Please excuse the title and any cryptic/redundant text. It was a PITA finding search terms that would find any info on first gen 19's, so I'm using every variation I can think of to help people searching in the future. I was lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time and picked up one of the "mythical" gen 1 19's (1988 production). I just have 1 picture at the moment, but I'll get more soon. It didn't have the original case and just came with one original mag unfortunately, though the gun is in fairly decent shape for the age.

The notable differences with these guns, over second generation 19's, are the grip angle and reduced arch (it's effectively like a Gen 1 17 that's been grip chopped). The gun feels great, and feels like a gen 2 19 with a heat reduction on the arch. In addition to that, the original recoil spring assembly (RSA) is uncaptured.

One notable thing is, on the right side of the slide (right side as in looking at the gun from the back) is stamped K.S. A.B.C. for Kansas State Alcoholic Beverage Control. Judging by the minimal information I was able to find out there, the very few gen 1 19's I was able to find pictures of all appeared to be stamped with these same markings for this same LE department.

Thankfully all serial numbers match on this gun, barrel, slide, frame, as well as all the proof marks.

I spent a significant amount of time researching these first gen 19's. It was difficult to find any sort of definitive info regarding the origins of these guns. The best conclusion I could come to with the minimal info available is, it appears to me that in 1988 there were a handful of these first gen 19's imported (info varies from roughly ~12-24 guns, maybe a few more but not very many). It sounds to me like it may be a possibility they were imported for testing by the ATF to determine legality and eligibility for importation, and then subsequently were purchased by or donated to the Kansas State Alcoholic Beverage Control for issue.

I had trouble finding much info on these. What I did find was minimal at best, with a total lack of pictures or good pictures. I plan on helping change that. I'll get as many pics as I can to better document these rare guns. Here's one to get started:

Looking forward to seeing the pics to confirm it is indeed a gen 1 G19 instead of an early gen 2 G19.

You can also verify it yourself. There are pics on this thread of a gen 1 G19. A gen 1 G19 will have a pebble like grip all around and will look like a chopped up gen 1 G17 frame. The gen 2 G19 will have checkering on the front and back straps of the frame grip.

Noktrnl1, two posts above this one (in post #84), SmokieXD45 posted pictures of a Gen 1 G19, and a Gen2 G19.

The texture on the grip portion of the frame is the key. Gen1 Glocks have the same slightly roughened/bumpy finish front, back, and sides, all the way around the frame with no gaps -- it wraps around the frame in one continuous area. Gen2 Glocks have the roughened/bumpy surface on the side panels of the grip, but heavy and deep checkering on the front and rear surfaces of the grip.

It would be a copy of a collector's piece. Glock could care less about the consumers. Their bread and butter is government/military/police departments.

True, they were not that robust. But looking at it from a monetary perspective, if its sought after and know that its a hot commodity, people will jump the gun and open up there wallets. The same thing with video games; why is Nintendo releasing original Nintendo (NES) and Super Nintendo (SNES) consoles from the 80s and 90, even though there are MUCH better advanced consoles like PS4 and Xbox One. Matter a fact, NES & SNES re-released for the 2nd time in 2017 because the system sold out like hot cakes, the retail price was $80 but after it sold out, people were putting it up on ebay for $200+ and people were buying them.

Same can be said about shoes as well. Jordan 1's from 1985 that re-released are going for $1500+ and there are much better shoes that have better technology and cushioning.

How much would you pay for a copy of a Gen1 19? Unless they only released 1986 copies for example (to correspond with whatever year they were made) I don't think I would buy it.

I believe it's the other way around. They go after the police & military market mostly because civilian type people like to use what their protectors use, and there's a lot more civilian types...they also tend to buy more than one...and at a higher profit margin.

Yep, that big now days, Colt has new copies of
Viet Nam era M16's accurate down to the roll marks.
Big money too.
Colt has never actually sold any of these. The ones at SHOT were prototypes.

Like many ARs that they've even gone so far as to put in catalogs I don't think that this will ever be sold. I'd sure love one though. I've had one on order since first announced. They are indeed way overpriced. Still, I'd be thrilled to get one.
