still trying to decide on a striker fired nightstand gun...deciding between the sig p320 compact, glock 19, Walther ppq and the HK vp9...
Worried about the light trigger on the ppq, the rubbing of the trigger finger on the HK and the newness on the market of the p320..
Had a g17 so I feel the glock is ok..
So any recommendations before ordering tonight?
The Glock 19, hands down. It is a proven design. If you had a Glock 17, why do you not have it now!? To me it is one of the best striker fired designs and makes a great nightstand weapon. Get a Saf-T-Block trigger dongle thingee for it. I have them on my G17 and G36. http://www.brownells.com/shooting-a...ocks/saf-t-blok-for-glock-reg--prod17097.aspx
If you are going to get a saf-t-block thingee.......then you might as well get something you can keep cocked and locked, and have a better trigger overall.
Personally, I believe it's only necessary for those who can't trust the Glock trigger, on it's own merits, to be safe enough for SD.
I have a G17 next to my bed......and, I'd trust it to save my xxx, if fate makes that necessary.
All are fine guns and while the PPQ would be my pick of the litter as an all purpose gun, for the nightstand I'd go Glock. Like you said, light trigger for "shaken awake in the dark by an intruder" situations.
Hogship, I have a cocked and locked 1911, but got used to a in-the-pants-pocket carry for my G36 and felt I needed the Saf-T-Block trigger dongle. I got used to it and it is such an intuitive safety device, it pops out when you put your finger inside the trigger guard. My nightstand has a lot of stuff on it and I don't want an AD to happen. I think the Saf-T-Block may be an illusory device but a tiny bit of peace of mind is good to have. My nightstand gun stays loaded with 20 rounds of 124 gr +P JHP Golden Sabers. My real go-to gun is a 20 gauge Winchester Defender in the Armoire close to the bed loaded with Federal #2's. I'm a widower and have guns stashed all over the house.
I went through the same thing- deciding on the same 4 guns.
Walther PPQ is actually superior to the VP9;
I think the PPQ is superior to the g19,
but...when you look at parts cost and availability- mostly magazine cost, the Glock won out for me. I like to have multiple mags for a gun, and paying $40 + for a mag is more than I'm willing to pay.

I suggest you look at a CZ P-09 before you decide. It's what I keep on the night stand. It's a reliable performer and 19+1 of 9mil is a lot of firepower before a reload.

My recommendation is to go to a real gun store, look at and handle the guns, and walk out with one.
That's exactly what I did and came home with the sig.
I don't get the fascination with ordering common guns from the internet, sight unseen.
Since you have reservations with some of the others, though all terrific pistols, and you have experience with the Glock 17 then the Glock 19 makes a lot of sense for you.
I shot a P320C and loved shooting it but am not comfortable with the almost zero take up on the trigger. I have a Gen 2 Glock 19, a PPQ, and a VP9. Love them all.
Walther PPQ. World class ergonomics and reliability. The best trigger on any striker fired pistol in production. More accurate than any shooter will be able to accomplish. Get it!! No need to worry about a crisp 5.6lb trigger unless you aren't planning on keeping the finger out of the trigger guard until ready to fire.
Glock 21 shooting big, slow, quiet ashtrays that won't zip through the length of your house but knock a bad guy for a loop.
My PPQ's trigger got funky after about 300 rounds, got a "hitch" in it I couldn't stand and I sold it.
My awake housegun is a HK P30L with +p 124 gold dots. Bedside is a glock 21 or a glock24 with the big and slower sub sonic golddots.
