New Casting Pot

I am considering replacing my Lee Production Pot with an RCBS electric furnace for casting. Do any of you use this? What about the Lyman? I am getting tired of the drip and splatter from the Lee. It has worked ok for several years, but I am ready for a better unit. Any others you might suggest, keeping the same price point as the RCBS in mind?

Maybe it's the huge temp swings here, or I'm simply unlucky. But I did NOT do well with electric pots. Bought a LEE that took forever to get to Temperature, then leaked like crazy.

Bought a Lyman, thermostat went bad almost immediately , so they sent me a new one. The new one kept temperature fairly well, but also leaked or froze up. But in reality not a bad pot.

Finally decided to ladle pour and found out about WAAGE melting pots. Built in America and built to Industrial, not hobbyist specs. Bought a 30# model maybe ten yrs back. It has been PERFECT. Holds temp exactly where the thermostat is set. Comes to temp quickly.

Not cheap but a ONCE in a lifetime purchase.

Just looked at their site and WOW but did their prices go UP! My pot was $300+ shipped. NOT anymore! Never mind.

I've been casting with a 10# Lee bottom pour for years, and been threatening to go to a bigger pot for about half that time. When I cast .45's with a 6 banger it really empties the pot quickly, and adding lead takes a while for the temp to even out. I continue to plod along with it.

A buddy just bought the lee 20#, says he like the extra capacity but doesn't like how fast the lead gushes out when it's over half full so he started dipping from it.

I continue to be tempted by the RCBS, but that's a lot of $$. I image one day I'll bite the bullet, then kick myself for not doing it sooner. I wish I knew someone who had one I could use to try it out.

Truly...Take a look at the WAAGE pots...They do a 20# that's right at 400.

I can leave my pot full of alloy. Days later go out, kick it on. By the time I gather up my stuff, clean off the bench, etc. It's ready to go. FAR quicker than the LEE I had.

Buy once...Cry once.

I like bottom pour pots, use a Lee with a pid, works fine for the $$ Only rub is it isnt insulated. The rcbs is a great functiong pot, like it better than the older lyman. If i was gonna spend $400+, i would spend $600 & get the magma pot. With a 40# cap & good thermostate, great for large volume casters.
Btw, midway has the rcbs on sale right now??

I here this lee dripping thing all the time, mine dont. Never put crud scrap alloy in the pot, never drain the pot. That way crud doesn't get down to the pour spout. Yes you do have to keep the spout screws snug, but do that, they dont drip.
