I just added a Beretta 92FS
Made in Italy to my collection and
I was wondering what upgrades you folks have added to your
Berettas. I'm probably going to buy Wilson grips and their short
trigger to start with.

Cheers!

Don

I used to have a Hogue grip sleeve on mine. I carefully took it off, sold the Beretta and slid a Glock 19 up in it's place, seemed to solve it...

Thanks, but I've already got a small pyramid of Glock cases. I wanted to add to the collection. ;)

I sold it and bought a Sig P226 that was in 1985 and I haven't looked back...but I did like it till I was spoiled by Sig

Beretta Elite II skeletonized hammer. Wilson Combat short reach trigger. VZ G10 tactical slant grips. Beretta steel oversized magazine release button. Beretta steel recoil spring guide rod and nitride-coated spring. Various reduced power mainsprings, currently 14 lb Wilson Combat chrome silicon hammer spring. Wilson Combat single-sided low profile safety/decocker lever.

Sounds good, what's the advantage of the E2 hammer?

D spring, all metal controls, Elite II hammer, extended checkered mag release, Larry Davidson G10 grips, flat aluminum mainspring cap, night sights, and hex grip screws on both the 92FS and 92A1. Threaded barrel, Silencerco Octane 9 suppressor, and Surefire X300U on the A1. Steel guide rod on the FS.

Then I sent the FS out to Wilson Combat for a workover. Full action job, G conversion, front and backstrap checkering, left side only decocker, Armor Tuff finish. Intend to send off the A1 for the same at some point (hopefully) soon.

I don't think that everyone knows that Wilson does excellent custom work on pistols that you already have and send in to him. Years ago I sent him a stock Colt 1911 before he was manufacturing his own line of pistols and rifles. He customized it for competition (IDPA style shooting), and it performed flawlessly. Used it for a course at Ray Chapmans and for a couple of courses at Gunsite, when Jeff Cooper was teaching there. Digested everything I fed it. No misfires. Still have it, but have added some Wilson's of his manufacture, including an early CQB in .45 and one in 9mm. Not sure he works on anything but the 1911 models and the Beretta though.

Don as you see the D spring is a no brainer and is easy for anyone to do buy it and watch a Utune video.

I would see what you think for many range trips until you do anything else.

Shoot some hot ammo and youlll appreciate the wide grip... too many people judge a gun by wimpy range ammo-- fine if it's only a range gun-- but if could be a SD gun, shoot it!

The next thing I'd consider after the above is a g-style decocker. It lowers the hammer safely and sets the gun in a da/say mode For a dork like me, I have someone else do it. Really not that hard but since I'm not home 4-5 days a week, my patience is low for this kind of thing.

As for replacing anything else you are gilding a fully functional, reliable gun. Plastic guide rods work, and may be better, Steel trigger over a plastic coated steel-- bling. Short reset trigger, competition oriented (got mine from Earnst Langdon). Hammer change-- bling.

Grips: I love the look of the g10's above... all a meter of pocketbook versus other wants. I don't think the standard grips are "bad". I have several different grips and one box of ammo with any and I'm not thinking of the grips.

Lube: some say Berretas love to run wet... not sure this is true. I grease the rails (which feel like they are on ball bearings). Thin film -- I live in a hot, freeze free environment... ymmv. Don't forget a little lube on the locking blocks.

To me, Beretta makes the best value gun-- and I own many brands and styles.

Hope you like it...

You can do you're own G conversion on an FS? I only know two people doing that kind of work, and it requires machining. Beretta does claim to be offering a drop in part at some point, but as far as I know, is not available yet.

It never really crossed my mind to upgrade a Beretta. The trigger is DA/SA, so improving that is like lipstick on a pig. Even rubber grips just add size to a grip that's already too big and changing sights isn't that easy, so I have always left them stock.

Although the Beretta 8000 series (Cougar) F models, and the Beretta PX4 Storm F models are very easily converted to G models by the kitchen table gunsmith who is not a complete klutz, conversion of the 92 series is not for the faint of heart and requires drilling the slide.

Beretta is promising a kit intended to convert the new M9A3 from an F to a G model that will allegedly work on the 92FS if and when it finally appears. This has been the buzz for some time and there is not even a guess as to when it might be available.

There is some disagreement, but many feel that a lower mass hammer reduces the likelihood of light primer strikes when using reduced power hammer springs. The lighter hammer is more quickly accelerated by the mainspring, and apparently velocity counts for more than mass when it strikes the firing pin.

If you are a right-handed shooter and intend to use the slide lever as a decocker only, the Wilson Combat low profile lever is a reasonable option. This part eliminates the right side of the lever, although there is still a hub that sticks out a little. The left side lever is thinned down considerably. The WC lo-pro lever does make it easier to cycle the slide quickly without accidentally tripping the lever to safe, or scraping your hand on the rather sharp levers. The WC lo-pro is harder to quickly manipulate, so if you want to carry your pistol on-safe and flip the lever during the draw, it is probably not the best option. It might not be the best option if you want to use the lever to decock your pistol with your right thumb without shifting your shooting grip. You may or may not be able to do this. But if you use your lever as a decocker only, immediately flipping it back up after decocking, it works quite well. It is easily installed with the help of a few youtube videos.

VZ G10 grips are thinner than the stock polymer Beretta grips. I assume that the Wilson Combat ultra-thin G10 grips are a bit thinner still. Some people use Vertec grip panels on Beretta 92 FS pistols to reduce the grip circumference.

Still better than a Glock.

I've left my M9 stock, but I've got a 92FS Inox that has the following mods:

Wilson Combat G10 grips
Wilson Combat 13 lb hammer spring
Wilson Combat low profile safety lever
Wilson Combat Short Reach Trigger
Beretta Elite Hammer

Sometimes I think the grips are a little too thin (I have the regular, and used to have the ultra thins), and I can't stand the stainless front sight on the black rears and since I can't mill for a dovetail, i may just paint the front sight post black and leave the red dot. it's a love/hate... but I do love my WC 92G Brigadier Tactical :)

So... you can certainly feel the difference in several milliseconds? A thousandth of a second?
Do I feel it in terms of raw time? Probably not entirely. Do I feel the extra mass coupled with the extra time? There is certainly a difference. Have you tried them side by side?

I don't recall, I have had to flirtations with the 92 series, one a plain FS and the other one a Brigadier that I planned on making into a budget service match pistol, and that was a complete and abject failure. I fitted a BarSto barrel and had Ernest Langdon do a trigger job (actually, he did the barrel as well, come to think of it) and added LPA adjustable sights, but no, if you want a Beretta Service Match, I guess there is only David Sams (and a wheelbarrow full of money)

#30 ·
I added a Beretta version Keltec Sub 2000. There is just something about having a pistol/carbine in the same caliber that calls to the PAW dweller (Post Apocalyptic wasteland) in all of us.

Bonus points if you can identify this place. There is a school not very far behind you.

Based on my research, the Wilson Combat ultra-thin G10 grips are the thinnest that can
be had, but I do not know how they compare to the Vertec grips as far as
thickness is concerned.

They are very thin. I haven't compared them side by side with a Vertec, but I went back to my Larry Davidsons pretty quickly. Too thin for me.

Well, I ordered the WC ultra thin grips in black, short reach trigger, WC "D" style hammer
spring, and a Safariland 7377 7TS ALS Belt Slide Concealment Holster.

I have a bone stock M9, and see no reason to futz with it.
If you want a pistol caliber carbine to go with it, why not find a Storm? It uses Beretta mags, and 30s aren't hard to find. With its 'thru the grip' layout, it is almost as short as an SBR.

I blame Battlestar Galactica for my love of those things. I've had three over the years.

The fact that they share mags with my favorite handguns, are accurate, reliable, and are easy to shoot and customize certainly doesn't hurt

This particular one I was able to set up exactly how I want it, and it's stupid fun with subs.
