Hey there- I'm thinking of picking up another 10mm shooter.
I was considering the Sig P220 in 10mm but I can find the variant I want (not into paying a premium for krypto camo).
The new Delta looks good, has the mods I probably would have done anyway, but there are some mixed reviews of the new Colt production 1911s. Anyone have experience with this model? How is the finishing and fitting etc? Any other options I should consider?
Before this thread gets locked...
I like the newer Delta Elites over the older models.
Better fit and finish with an improved grip safery that absorbs recoil much better.
I have an older Delta, with upgrades and a Colt .40 barrel I drop in for the range. Regardless of what Internet warriors say, you can not wear these guns out.
Colt used to be the original but even original Colt employees would probably not recognize some of what passes for Colt quality today. Hey, it is like reminiscing about Bruce Jenner being a dude and Olympic hero. True in the 70s. Not so much today...
There were many manufacturers of GI 1911's through the years, not just Colt. And parts got interchanged over time. The one I carried was a hybrid. I never saw a true 100% Colt in the Army.

Well I'm kinda of late to the thread but would like to respond to the OP. I have the newer model Colt Delta Elite. For my comparisons on 10mm, I also have a Glock G40 and had a Glock G20. I like them all but I am more accurate with the Colt Delta Elite. The fit and finish of the Colt is very nice and feels really great in the hand. To me, recoil is very similar in both the Colt and the G40.
I had wanted a Delta Elite for a long time, and while accurate and reliable, I quite frankly didn't like the recoil. I have also shot a G20, which is better recoil wise, but to me the softest shooting is my 1006. Big, heavy, good trigger.
That is interesting. As I mentioned, I have a 1006 but it is nib and I haven't shot it. The grip with factory plastic seems narrow and blocky so I assumed probably not comfortable to shoot. Collector be damned, i'll have to try it.

Actually the 1006 is a very comfortable shooter, even with the hotter 10mm loads. The issue you are likely to have (if any) will be with the trigger. I just never cared for the trigger on the one I had, so I eventually sold it. YMMV.
thanks. Yes the 1006 definitely has a beefy build where it counts but a small, blocky grip frame. I might hunt down a nice set of wood grips for her. I prefer the grip of the 1911 which is why I want one as a shooter. Hopefully I'll be able to handle a few over the next while.
