So, I'm looking to trade for another .45.
Now, I LOVE my Gen4 21's and my Gen4 30. That being said, who makes the best NON-Glock, NON-1911 .45?
Let me also say, I am not looking to spend $1,000.00.

That would be my vote as well. Tried and true CZ 75 design, scaled up for the 45

Imho Hk 45 or USP series with Usp45ct being the pinnacle and G30 being all around great shooter.

Admittedly, I am looking at a S&W 625 thunder ranch.

Sig 220. I like mine.

A 4506 I had I sometimes regret selling.

Best for what?

Best for carry? Target-shooting? Best-looking (highly subjective)? Best accuracy?

Best all-around .45 pistol in all categories but won't be carried, under $1000US retail?

Details, we need details. Define your wants and needs, and what you DON'T want or need, as well. If there is no chance you will be carrying this, then we can toss out many small/light carry pistols, as carry is all they are really good for. If you're just going to be shooting targets slow-fire or timed-fire, then a pistol with a high bore axis is fine; for rapid, accurate shooting of full-power loads, a lower bore axis is better.

DON'T DO IT! Had one. Polymer very soft (youtube and google are your friends). Lost accuracy after less than 550 rounds. Had two range masters fire (both competition shooters) - they concluded issue with barrel - lockup or otherwise. Tried to contact FNH for customer service. took 2 days of my trying. Nobody in customer service returned my call. Then when I did get someone they said to hold the gun until their new facility was up and running later in the summer. That was it for me. I will NEVER buy another cheaply made FN product EVER (ok, the Scar 17S is on my list ... but that's it!). Their sub $2500 stuff is junk. Replaced it with an HK USP 45 Tactical. Night and day difference. HK is a tack driver although I only have 100 ads through it. Feels much more like an $1100-1200 firearm than the Flippin No Help (FNH) did

Sig p220r
hk45
hk45c
FNP-tactical

Those come to mind, I've owned the hk45c, but sold it b/c the USP series just shot better in my hands, though it was a very nice gun.

I own the FNP-tactical and its a great gun that holds 15+1 rounds of .45

The HK45 will feel best in hand

The sig p220 has a smooth action with a nice SA trigger.

I have a XDM in .45 and will tell you its about one of the most perfect out of the box striker fired pistols on the market. I also have a SIG 220 and 227 and like them both as well but understand they are SA/DA handguns. I also have a FNX 45 and like it a bunch as well but its not really a carry option because of its size but 15 rounds of .45 is awesome. Of course the FNX also is SA/DA. All the above guns have been completely reliable and the triggers on all of them are exceptional. But the XDM gets the nod for the best trigger on striker fired gun.

I've owned a HK USP and other HK hammer fired guns and I have never been happy with the triggers on those guns...really they usually suck pretty bad. If HK ever came out with a VP45 I'd be all over it.

My Glock 21 is probably my least favorite gun out of the box...

I also have/carry an xdm in 45acp. I really like it. Very accurate pistol. Just my two cents.

I'm really happy with the Glock 21. That said, my other two choices for practical carry would be either the HK45C, or the Sig P220.

If 1911's are fair game, of course, there are a lot of choices, and some really great pistols.

I keep coming back to Glocks, though. If the G21 is too large for certain applications (concealing under a tee shirt, for example), then a G30 or G36 works well.

I like my little XDs .45, though I might go with the shorter barrel next time. I have the 4.0. It's pleasant enough to shoot.

I don't know about the "best", but these are some of my favorites in 45acp: P220, USPc and revolvers have been a great fun alternative- S&W 625 and Vaquero.
