I was all over the place trying to decide between all of the 629 variants. Finally made up my mind to get the v-comp, slightly edging out the 629 2.625" PC.
Found one at a good price. Now I think I may need the 45acp v-comp.
In my humble mind, this "Early 66" represents gun art that I enjoy more than many so called fine art pieces. It is true that "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder."
top to bottom: my model 19-3, model 66-1, and my dads model 15-2. my dad really enjoyed his model 15. I'm so glad to have it. There is nothing like a classic S&W revolver in my opinion.
Nice collection and it is good to see your dad's old 15 in there . I just got my dad's old 36 , I haven't looked to see what dash it is yet . I think it is from the mid 70's , pinned barrel , but not recessed .
I went and looked ( lazy me , can't open a safe ) it's a 36 without a dash . I should take a new picture now and include my dad's 36 like you did .
S&W Model 686 in 2.5" is a blast to shoot, literally. The heavy build of the 686 absorbs some of the .357 recoil, but it still provides a notable shooting experience.
I just joined the .357mag revolver world with a 686 stainless six inch (a hoot to shoot) and new 586-8 blued four inch Classic that I have yet to fire. Impressed by the 686 accuracy and how well it tames the round. I'm a semi auto pistol guy but these two Smith's are quite fun.

Very nice. 41 seems to be about the perfect caliber for the N-frames. However, I was chatting with a fellow who has close to 10K of warmish loads (240 @ around 1400) through his newer 629-6 without any signs of deterioration. He said he had to tighten one screw but other than that it is still going strong and still looks and feels solid. Assuming he is being straight up, that is testament to the endurance package.
thank you sir. I'd like to get a pre-lock model 29 too. I'm "open to buy" at my local dealer if one comes in. I'm not particular about the barrel length either.
