Looking for something in the 1-4x range, < $500. Anything new or coming soon?

Not at all. If you understood parallax, optics and the variable quality, you would not even ask that question. The better and truer the glass, the less parallax you have, adjusted or not. Optical distortion is a real thing, not an opinion, and it can be tested and proven.
I ask this question because I do understand parallax. There is always going to be some parallax. This is why scopes are parallax corrected at a specific distance and those intended for long range use are parallax adjustable.
Do you have any facts to back up your claims that the Strike Eagle has parallax issues that other scopes in it’s price range do not?

I have tested them and yes, they have a good amount of parallax beyond 200 yards. It is not a claim or an opinion, it is a fact. Don't believe it, perfectly fine with me. Have a nice day.

Went out and did some parallax testing today. Got permission to use a neighbor’s field. Set up a target and moved back to 200 yards. I’m low tech so my distance was measured with a 100 yard tape measure.
Optics used: Strike Eagle (obviously), and as a control, I brought along a Leupold 3-9 with a parallax adjustable objective. The rifles were placed in a MTM Gun Maintenance Center (A plastic rack that holds long guns for cleaning) and that was put on the tailgate of my truck. My parallax test involved securing the rifle in the rest with the reticle centered on the target and while looking though the scope, moving my head around to see if the reticle would move off the target center.
At 200 yards, no discernable parallax with either of the optics although I could create parallax by adjusting the objective on the Leupold.
Moved back to 700 yards. The Strike Eagle did exhibit a small amount of parallax but about the same as the Leupold if I regulated it for 100 yards, which is the distance that the Strike Eagle is factory corrected for.
Just thought I’d share this.

I looked at LOTS and lots of 1-4x options and went with the Vortex Viper PST. For the money its really hard to beat. The warranty is outstanding, the glass is very nice - not Trijicon nice - but at this price nothing is.

Don't regret this purchase one bit.

I'm looking at the big brother Razor HD 1-6x for my SCAR 17 but not ready to spend all that $ yet! haha

I have a Nikon 3-32 on a Sig M400. Great scope out to 200 meters (the furthest i can shoot).
I also have a Bushnell 1-4 on a C39v2. Really nice!
Either would be a good choice. 1-6 optimal if you can afford one.

17 ounces seems about average for a 1-4x or 1-6x. Some are 20+. Very few are less than 15. Here's a list I found:

14.6 Leupold VX-6
14.8 Swarovski Z6i
17 Leupold mk6
17.4 Primary Arms with ACSS reticle
17.6 Kahles k16i
17.6 Vortex Strike Eagle
17.64 MeoStar R2
18.0 Norden Performance 1-6X
18.5 Bushnell Elite Tactical
19.2 Trijicon Accupoint
20.7 Millet BK81624
23.2 Trijicon VCOG
24.87 Elcan SpectreDR 1.5X/6X
25.2 Vortex Razor

That's why I posted the Leupold 1-4 VX-HOG Scope earlier. Only 8.2 ounzes.

Leupold 1-4 VX-HOG Scope. It is the lightest 1-4 scope at 8.2 ounces, works well both eyes open and can be had for $230. Lightest mount comes from AERO for $75. I use this setup on a sub 4 lb $3500 AR 15 build. My $2.5k 1-6 Kahles scope is too heavy.

Why limit yourself to a 1X4? At least get a 1X6.
The Strike eagle 1X6 Or the Primary arms 1x6 are very nice. I have used both and like the Primary arms reticle better and its a very nice scope for the money, cheaper then the Vortex. I have other Vortex scopes though. The Vortex does give you lifetime warranty that is nice to have!

But then there is also a 1X8!

Cowboy, what do you intend to use your AR for? casual shooting at a range, hunting or 3 Gun competition? I run Trijicon 1-4 Accupoints for 3 gun, a Trijicon 3-9 mil dot for sniper rifle, a Burris FastFire dot for carbine training. 1-6 scopes with long eye relief would be the ticket today for 3 gun, as they didn't exist 20 years ago. Also dots, depending on MOA size, are pretty much limited to 100-200 yards for 3 Gun because of the smaller target sizes, typically 3 to 6 inch plates at those distances.

Range mostly but it will also be mounted on my HD AR (which currently has a red dot). No hunting and probably no 3-gun. Mainly I want to dip my toe into long-range shooting... 100-300 yards for now. If I really get into it someday I can upgrade to a better scope but for now I just need a "starter" scope.

Under $500 I'd probably go Burris MTAC or SWFA Classic 1-4x. I haven't really liked any of the cheap 1-6x offerings, they're ok up to 4x but at 6x just don't hold up IMO.

Also, Burris has about the best warranty you could ask for.

Decent scope for the price but keep in mind the weight of 17.6 ounces. That's more than the Glock 43. If you are going to plink, 3 gun or use it without rest or pod you will hate every once after a while.

I wish they all would put levers (or at least have the option for) on the zoom ring. That is something you want to adjust quickly and under stress.

Are there are aftermarket options for this for the Primary Arms or Strike Eagle?

A 1-6x Leupold VX-R Patrol with capped turrets would be my ideal scope (disregarding price). The current version, 1-4x, target turrets, is acceptable but not ideal. I like the weight of 11 oz. I really don't want an increase of 15 ounces over my current red dot (TRS-25) which is what I would get with a 17 oz scope like the Primary Arms even with an ultra-light mount.

Still looking...
