The wife is a retired teacher and as a teacher she never had an interest in a carry permit.
Even after she retired, she never felt the need as I always carried and she felt that was enough. However, now that we are getting older and I can't get around like I want to, she has finally listened to reason and got her carry permit here in Texas.
We like to travel and see the country but as I said, I don't get around very well so I usually drive us to an attraction and see what I can from the car or near by and she is into photography so she will wander off to get a pic of this or that. It worried me when she would get out of sight.
Now the rule is, when we go sight seeing, she carries. No ifs ands or buts about it. She had her first carry outing today to the local Walmart as we needed a few items. No issues, no nerves, no one noticed. She carries a Ruger LCP in an inside the pocket holster. She is very picky about how her clothes feel on her and the pocket carry seems not to bother her. I also bought her, her own bedside lock box that has the same code as mine so both of us can open either in an emergency. Got two young grandsons so we have to be extremely careful.
Congratulations!
My gf has taken over my LCP, but doesn't like to carry because she doesn't get to practice with it enough. 380 ammo is not cheap. So now she is eyeing my LC9S Pro, because the practice ammo is affordable and a little easier to shoot.
there is a song by Roy Clark that comes to mind here. "Thank God and Greyhound" (she's gone). in your case the airline , not the bus, same blessing, perhaps disguised at the time.
Congrats to her!I never thought I'd ever have any desire to have guns and get my
CCW. 4 years ago nasty divorce(married 27 years) he would leave me graphic threatening voice messages. Nevada would only issue me a restraining order for 3 months and then extended one time. WORTHLESS. I refuse to be afraid ....so this girl learned to shoot...and got her CCW quickly.
What training or basic skills competence test does Texas require for a concealed carry license? Is your lady truly comfortable carrying and shooting her handgun?
Texas requires a six hour class and you have to shoot 175 score out of 250 possible from 2, 7 and 15 yards. She has been shooting with me since we got married 40 yrs ago, so shooting wasn't as much of an issue as getting used to the double action trigger of the Ruger .380. Getting used to packing will come over time.
And to Happyguy, I told her about the nachos but this Walmart has a Burger King in it, so no nachos.
Now there are four of us in the family with permits. I carry under LEOSA, the wife, son and his fiance all have Texas permits. The daughter and son-in-law are to liberal minded to have guns or carry. My daughter did grow up shooting with me but she has changed. Her 7 yr old son how ever is a work in progress. He loves going to the range to shoot .22 pistols and rifles. Now the 5yr old is show interest so time to start him out with the BB gun in the back yard.
