Drooling. But I'll wait a few years. My MkIII Hunter does fine and since I removed the mag disconnect and put VQ guts in it, it's not that hard to fiddle with.
I'm glad they lost some of the stupid MKIII additions. The magazine disconnect should have gone too, but it is easily deactivated. The new features and takedown should be nice improvements to a classic rimfire.
I hope they expand the offerings to include different barrel lengths and add in a tapered version. By that time perhaps some long term feedback will be available.
My Mark II's function well. If the Mark IV's prove well constructed, I'd open my wallet for another Ruger rimfire.
Eager to see one and test-drive it. Looks nice, and that one-button takedown will prevent a lot of headaches for some folks.
Great article, but I did see one little error; he said the scalloped cuts around the bolt ears started with the MK-III, when the MK-II was actually the first model to use them.
I was thinking that they'd probably hold their value pretty well, given the projected price for these new models is so high ($429 to $700 or more (!)).
I've got 5 Rugers between me and my wife. I shoot a pair of Mk IIIs with TacSol top ends and Volquartsen internals and she shoots a pair of 22/45s with Volquartsen internals with one Mk III built from parts for a spare. I'm sure sooner or later I'll end up with the Mk IV just because.
I'll keep my MkII Slabside the way it is, and buy a MkIV as a suppressor host, but they need to make a couple changes to make it BETTER. I like my trigger.
Awesome! I like my old MK1 and newer LITE, but fixing the re-assembly annoyance (or using Majestic Arms, etc.) is great news. I use the LITE as my suppressor host, but will consider the new Ruger. Thanks for posting!
Hmmmmm... Web site has no mention of threaded versions, and it is priced a bit higher than I anticipated. Neither are deal killers, but combined they will cause me to wait for a bit to see what follows.
Well......I must admit I did have problems with the assembly of the MKII back in the 1980's, but it's been a long time since I've had any trouble at all. Once you get the hang of it, and learn to tilt the pistol at the appropriate time......it's as easy as "falling off a log"!
I predict the MKII's are going to start having collectibility, but the MKIII's will always be the one us "old timers" will complain about. The MKII will be the "colt python" of the Ruger MK series.......
The MKIV will be super popular, IMHO.....and, well it should be! :dancing:
Man that new disassembly procedure looks easy. Great that they have solved the biggest complaint about the previous models. Well they still have the MD. I guess we can still grumble about that.
Bout Dang Time... Volquartsen Parts too will take a hit.. They had that easy disassembly bold thingy they were selling.. I'd like to try one of these if they make a Bull Barrel Version!
Looks very cool...but that MSRP is kind of tough to swallow given that I have a MkII Great Eight that cost less than half that between the gun and the VQ fire control parts I upgraded it with.
The MKII is the best Rimfire pistol ever made as far as I'm concerned. The takedown is a minor issue once you learn how. I'll be keeping mine.
That being said, this looks like a legit successor to the king. Once they get more models introduced(with threads) I'll be very interested.
Howdy. What makes the MKII the best? Own a couple MkIIIs and like them both. My brother has my grandfathers MKI and they all shoot pretty similar to me.
What makes the MKII special. More importantly, should I go buy one right now?

We like our MKIIs because they don't have the LCI and the mag disconnect safety.
