Slide cuts, the truth?

I like looking at Guns that have been worked on by Zev and Salient Arms. Almost works of art. But do slide cuts do anything to improve performance or do they create more space for lint and pocket/holster debris to get into and hide? Also what about reliability? The gun was designed to work as delivered. Do slide cuts affect that? And what about impacting the structural integrity? Is that impacted? Unless I hit the lottery it is not something I would do but I am still curious non the less. Please educate me.

Lighter slides cycle faster. This has been a gamer mod for years and years. With a defensive gun shooting full power loads, I see no point other than for looks. It also weakens the slide. USPSA shooters with dramatically lightened slides do experience cracking.
USPSA shooters also experience cracking with unmodified slides. I've personally replaced 3.

I've joked around, before, about duct taping my slide cut outs on my G34's should the zombies come. Should it come to that, I don't think it'd be a joke. One drop in the mud and it may render the pistol useless 'till you can field strip it and clear the debris. Good thing with Glocks is they aren't all that sensitive to lint and dust, though a good bit of lint could cause some cycling problems. If you have cut outs, just be sure you keep it clean. ;)

I am not a fan of ZEV or Salient Arms guns. Just way too much and over the top, ya' know. And stoopid high prices, too. My Glocks are service pistols, they are fine as manufactured by Glock. Of course, a person can spend his money on what he wants, so each to his own.
To me, I think it's ignorant to pay big money to someone who hacked holes in a perfectly decent pistol w/ a Bridgeport for no other reason other that it looks "cool"!? I'll pass.

Yeah, they are pretty. Works of art, almost. Just not practical, IMHO.

I think very few people find a Glock to be perfect right from the factory. Anything that improves your shooting but keeps reliability is a good thing (sights, connector, grip tape ect.) whatever works for you. But I think a decked out Zev is unnecessary.

If someone handed me one for free I certainly wouldn't say no but my money could be spent better elsewhere.
