Why do I want a g20 gen4 so much?

I guess you could say I'm pretty new to the world of shooting pistols. I grew up shooting rifles and shotguns, but, never handguns. My wife, after Paris, decided we were going to get our carry permits and that was that. I'll be sixty in October and she is fifty two, and I don't hunt anymore, so, I sold most of my rifles to my cousin for super cheap and we got two Glock 19 gen 4s, two M&P Shields in 9mm and I got a Glock 23 gen 4, but, I really want a G20 gen 4 for some reason. I guess I just want a cannon. I have absolutely no interest a 45acp, just a 10mm. Am I weird? I have a .40 S&W which is close to a 10mm, but, it still isn't. I also want to get a Lone Wolf barrel in 357 Sig when I get the gun. My wife's going to tell me I've lost my mind. What say you?

Welcome and congrats on the guns you bought. You'll like the 10mm, it's a good weapon for self defense, barrier penetration, and hunting. The 357 sig is also a good weapon for self defense and barrier penetration. I don't know about hunting with it, mostly because I never have.

The g20 gen 4 is a really nice handgun for the 10mm cartridge. 10mm gives you lots of options from mild to wild, and so far mine has had no functions at both ends and everything in between. I've even done some weak .40 and no issues (I do use a conversion barrel)
It does help a little when you consider that the 10mm can have more energy at 100 yards than the .45 does at the muzzle.

It's a really fun round, just expect that eventually you'll get into reloading for it, unless your ammo budget is big and your rounds fired per month are relatively low.
It will also really tame the .357sig rounds to where it'll feel close to the g19 when you fire, but maybe with a little extra muzzle blast.

If you can't tell I really like my gen 4 glock model 20. I carry it with me every day with underwood 155XTP in the gun, and a spare mag of each underwood 200XTP and underwood extreme penetrators.

Nothing wrong with the 10mm or G20, but if you want the most out of the 10, get a G40 & handload for it. I just wish i could buy one out here, but it is verboten in the facist state of kalifornistan.

You can always get an aftermarket 6" barrel, or even a stock 6" hunter barrel for the g20 if you want to try to get more/the most out of the 10mm cartridge.. I also believe that lonewolf makes a 9" barrel as well. Not sure how commufornia feels about aftermarket barrels like that but I'm sure they frown upon them, just like anything else you might use to protect yourself.

Personally I want to eventually get the 6.6" threaded barrel one of these days, a little extra length for velocity but not enough to be completely ridiculous about it.
If the 40 had been out when I bought my 20 I may have gone that route, but I think it would have been a little too big for me to conceal carry. Even the 20 is really pushing it.
A red dot is nice, but once again for me would add excessive bulk that would make carrying it even harder IWB. (although some of them aren't all that big, so biggest issue would probably be a holster to accommodate it)

what got me started was an article (don't remember the publication) claiming the G20 was issued in places to DNR, for defense against polar bear.
I would NOT want to try that little magic trick, but the G20, with the right load, could work for black bear.
good all purpose trail gun, and the G29 makes for a reasonable EDC.

Never really liked the look of the extended bbls, but certainly a cheap option. The G40 is about perfect, but I can't buy one here legally. I could get a LW slide & bbl, about 3/4 of what a new G40 would cost!
My G20sf is my light trail gun. It only runs 200gr bullets, XTP or LFP, @ 1200fps. It's controllable & while not anywhere close to a 4" 44mag, a bit easier to shoot at speed, though first hit times are pretty much identical, just a lot lighter to carry. If I am in grizz country, I carry the 4" 44mag with 270gr LFP @ 1200fps. Nothing short of an elephant is stopping that bullet.

I kinda have done the same thing and more,
got three six inch barrels for it, one in 9mm,
357sig and one in 40s&w, also got a 6.6'' in
10mm, still want one in 38 super.

What I found out is the six inch barrels will give
you 10mm power with cheap 40s&w brass, like
a 183gr cast boolit at over 1300fps with good
accuracy.

The sig will shoot a UW 125gr bullet over 1600fps
and the 9mm really smokes too.

I don't use it in 10mm much.

I understand wanting one, I've done it a lot! But... I don't really think the 10mm has any decided advantage over the .40 or .45, meaning that it's not going to kill something any deader.

There isn't a whole lot of advantage for most situations. There are a few situations where the extra velocity might make a minor difference, but very few of us are going to get into those situations.

I have the 10mm partly because I wanted something a little different (that I could still afford to own and use) and because a few years back we had a bear come through the place and take out our bee hive. I suppose that a .40 or a .45 will both kill a black bear with proper shot placement, but the 10mm should have better penetration than either, and has the decided advantage over the .45 of larger magazine capacity and better sectional density (200 or 220 grain hard cast flat nose) and should therefore penetrate better than either (good luck getting much velocity on a .40 with a 220 grain bullet)

Personally I like the 10mm. The biggest advantage in a glock is the large frame of the 10mm makes shooting .40 like the difference between .40 and 9mm in the compacts.

I have the same setup. The G20 Gen 4, and I have the LW .357 conversion barrel.

The G20 Gen 4 is, in my opinion, the best All around (versatility) Glock going.
By "versatile" I mean for carry, competition, hunting, and woods carry. The .357 conversion barrel works very well. Shooting Underwood through this barrel is a blast (pun intended).

The gen 4 barrel is supported enough to handle all the hottest loads from Buffalo Bore and Underwood.

Just shoot it and enjoy it.

Yeah, I finally reached puberty and went and bought myself one today. Well, I should say I ordered and paid for one today, they said it was a week to ten days out. I also ordered 250 rounds from LAX Ammo plus 20 rounds of Cor Bon hollow points. I feel guilty, but, I'm sure that will go away the first time I pull the trigger.

The LAX ammo seems to function mine just fine, but if you get a chance do an order from underwood and you'll see what people mean when they compare the current watered down 10mm ammo with some "full power" stuff.

I still have a G20/SF and a G20/4, but to me the best
most versatile Glock is a G21, not only can you shoot
45 acp, 45 super, 460 Rowland but the last couple of
weeks I have also been shooting 10mm, 40 s&w, 357
sig and even 9mm in it. I will get a 38 super barrel too.

Today I just shot another 19 rounds of 9mm, some 126
gr cast at 1295 fps and nine 115 FMJs at 1407 fps, no
jams, the barrel is a six inch LW G20 conversion barrel.

If this keeps going like this I will probably get rid of
both the G20s and get one more G21.

Next to my 6.5'' SS BH 357s with the extra 9mm cylinders
it will be my next best handgun.

I just love lots of options.

I have a Gen 3, and it's fantastic. I want a bunny fart recipe just for the hell of it, with 800X. Or get different powder.
