G21 Gen 4's seem to be great. Mine has been flawless and I have 2 friends that have reported the same thing as well. It's one of my favorite guns to shoot.
The challenge with the G 20 of any variant is the extremely wide range of ammo available. You can buy or reload ammo from near 9mm specs to almost 41 mag specs. (I said almost) The G 20's come sprung to shoot factory 10mm ammo. If you want to shoot the uber hot Buffalo Bore, parabellum research etc, you may need a stainless RSA with at least a 20# spring, if not 22# or 24#.
Not sure it helps it's just one case, but hey a little better than speculation
I bought a Gen 4 20 about 18 months ago, even a trip to Glock would not make it run with full power ammo. Tried heavier springs, no help. Sold it and moved on as I had no time to play in that apparent rabbit hole.
Bought a new gen 4 20 about three months back. It runs like a top on the exact same underwood ammo that choked the previous one.
Like I said, sample of one, could have been the luck of the draw but waiting a bit worked out for me.
I believe that Gen 3 G 20SF is sprung @ 17#. ref the difference, I have Gen 3 SF variants and Gen 3 in the same. If I had it to do over, I would pick a Gen 4, unless the Gen 3 SF model was more than $100 cheaper.
I bought my G20 Gen4 on 09/18/2014. It had a born date of 08/27/2014. I’ve run every thing from weak range ammo to hot Underwood and Buffalo Bore +P loads with zero problems. I’ve never even considered replacing the RSA.
Bought a gen 4 20 a few weeks ago. Put a couple hundred Sig Elite 180fmj @ 1250fps without any issues. Have shot a few mags of DT 200gr hard cast without issue as well! No modifications, no issues!
Love this gun!
