All i ever hear is how ugly Glocks are...its a brick...how pretty does your hammer need to be...I'm not saying 1911s aren't beautiful but personally i love the look of Glocks. Maybe because I'm a minimalist i like things that are simple and to the point. But when i see a glock at least to me its like the definition of what a handgun should be. If they're so ugly why does everyone have them...our is it just me...

I started out with S&W Revolvers, only had one Colt. Then got into 1911 Colts. And several years ago, Glocks. I've never had a Pretty Revolver, or Pistol. I switched to Stainless Revolvers, because they didn't Rust. I switched to Stainless 1911's for the same reason. I didn't get into Glocks till they came up with the 40 cal. Now I have Glocks in 9mm, 40 cal, & 45 acp, and two conversions for 22 cal.
You can't say a Glock is pretty, but it looks good to me. You don't have to clean it every time you shoot, but some do.
I didn't get into Glocks when they first came out, because they only had a 9mm. As I came up in Law Enforcement, If you carried an Automatic Pistol, it was a Colt 45, or Browning Hi-Power 9mm.
None of them would function well with Hollow Points, and there were few around. The 9's tended to just zip threw someone, and not even slow them down. The Big old 45 would stop them. Or that was the rumors. When Glock came out with the 40, and I read all the things about them, I decided to try one.
I went to a range and rented one and bought a G-22 that day. I still have 4, 40 cal Glocks, 3- 9mm, 2- 45s and 2- 22cal conversions. I only have 1- SS Springfield 1911, and 1- SS S&W 357.
My feelings about Handguns have changed through the years.
Glocks Work.

I've never considered the looks of a gun a determining factor whether to buy it or not. The determining factors for me have bee the gun's reputation and reliability, can I shoot it well (I try them before purchasing), and does it meet my SD, HD, CCW needs. I own guns I do not collect them. So what they look like doesn't come into play.

But to some, looks are important and that's fine with me. I respect that and accept it.

This thread reminds me that when I bought a Glock 34 I posted here that I got a new gun. In that thread I mentioned that I won't bother posting a picture because well......it looks like a Glock.

They are plain old squared off plastic guns... not much to look at.

As for the whole "tools" argument that seems to come up every third thread, I find that it's used as a fall back excuse whenever someone has something bad to say about a Glock. It's ugly? So what... it's just a tool. The slide scratches easily? So what... it's just a tool. Your brand new gun came with cosmetic defects when you bought it? So what... it's just a tool. The front of the dust cover pig-noses? So what... it's just a tool. "It's just a tool" ranks right up there with "Mine works fine so it must be your fault".

As for how it looks... Meh. Who cares... it's just a tool anyway.
You may be onto something. The "Its a tool" comment is used often, but the truth of the matter is that it is a tool and nothing more.
I would use the same description if I were carrying a $2000+ 1911.
I have weapons that are nothing but tools and I have others that are for recreation. Tools need not be pretty. Recreational firearms don't either, but it sure doesn't hurt anything.

I honestly don't think that Springfield XD handguns(any of em') look all that great. The new Sig P320 also isn't anything to write home about but both the XD and P320 work, just like my Glocks do. Function makes a firearm beautiful in many cases. If you want a nice looking semi-auto give the Browning P35 High Power a look, it looks really nice and it actually fits my hand rather well but I don't do cocked n' locked so any single action semi is out of the question for me.

I was talking about this forum as a whole. If you aren't aware of how often the "it's a tool" comment is used around here for everything from scratched slides to weak finish to gouged plastic frames to god-knows-what-elese, then you must be new here. Oh wait... you are. Not everything is totally about you, son.

And who are you exactly to tell other people why they should buy guns? So if they don't buy them as carry guns, that makes their reason for purchasing to be less worthy... says who? You? Some people buy guns to collect. Some people buy guns to target practice. Some buy them because they just like owning them and shooting them. There is a WHOLE LOT of space between "Check out my new gat" on Instagram and "this is my rifle, this is my gun...". Not all adults, as you say, buy guns as tools. If that was the case, then no one would EVER purchase something to collect or admire. No one would have a whole gun safe filled with different model pistols... after all, I can make excuses all I want about how one hammer has a slightly different handle or slightly different head or whatever... but if someone owned 15 different hammers, you wouldn't believe that he's viewing them only as "tools".

The same analogies are made over and over again here as well. Your car/truck/SUV is a tool... it gets you from point A to point B. However, it serves other purposes as well or no one would care enough to wash it, let alone spend $$$ on rims and crap like that. Some folks like guns to look nice as well as function well. There is nothing wrong with that, and just because some people also use the pistol to carry concealed doesn't mean that maybe they have an opinion about its looks.

I'm not one of the people who really cares that Glocks are plain or ugly. However, projecting your opinion onto other people by telling them that if they care then they should get matching heels and a purse is just juvenile machismo BS, IMO. And your reasoning behind it is exactly the same reasoning as all the other people who post here belittling other people's opinions by saying "it's just a tool, so get over it"... THAT'S the reason why I said what I said.

Some firearms are worth owning simply for their outstanding aesthetics (Browning HPs, non-rail 1911s, Colt Phytons, older 4" blue S&W revolvers, etc.). The fact that they are enjoyable to shoot seals the deal. These are the firearms that provide pride of ownership and are worth collecting.

On balance, I've never seen a Glock that I'd own for aesthetic considerations. FWIW, I own five Glocks for SD purposes. They are tools. And, I'd never consider any of them to be part of my 'collection'.

I've had two Glocks, neither ran 100%, one even after going back to the factory. I realize this was probably an exception, but IMHO lots of other mid-range plastic pistols are just as reliable.

Form follows Function - but there is a beauty in elegant simplicity.

GLOCK has only one "attractive" pistol, the G36 after a Rhinoplasty.

Everything you need... nothin' you don't.

The rest are fat-ass Brunhildes.
