Adjustable Gas Block

I fired my Daniel Defense MK18 Saturday and, though it functioned flawlessly, the gun is SERIOUSLY over-gassed (something I have learned DD did intentionally). Internet expert agree that an adjustable gas block is the best solution to the situation.

Does anyone here use an adjustable gas block with a 10.5'' barrel? If so, are there any specific recommendations? I'm leaning towards the JP Enterprises version.

The JP (all versions) won't last with the shorter gas system. The screw in the gas flow will erode so fast you will be back to square one. If you try to adjust at that point, you will break stuff and get failures.

The MicroMOA Govnah is one of the better ones for your application as the plates can be tuned and easily replaced.

Here is a short video...very light AR, carbine gas, fixed GB, with a "tuned" load and a normal load. Take a watch with an eye to movement and then consider if adjustable gas is really needed.

They are known to be overgassed.

An adjustable gas block will help any barrel length if it is overgassed. It may wear out faster, but it will help. I would only consider the SLR, from experience. It is worth the cost over the competition.

The other option is selling the DD barrel and picking up a Colt 10.3 barrel. The Colt will be in spec.

Is it denting cases or ripping case rims off?

If not leave it be, and/or try just a heavy buffer.

An adj gas block is great on a competition 18" rifle. It'll just crumble and fail on a pistol/sbr. There is very little dwell to a 10.5" carbine gas barrel. Restricting the port may effect reliability. If it was a 16" carbine, maybe it would work.

Believe it or not, there is a known working spec for an MK18 barrel. Bigger than this is overgassed, smaller is undergassed. Even if no problems other than violent ejection and excessive recoil are apparent.

An adjustable gasblock has been successfully used on DD MK18 barrels in the past. Using one will reduce recoil and increase bolt life.
