Bad?
The triggers on the recent release M&P40s are anything BUT bad. They are very good - and they don't have that funky, irritating little lever in the middle of the trigger that the Glocks and others have. They have a nice, smooth trigger shoe which feels great to the trigger finger.
I have enjoyed my Glock nines and forty fives for many years, but the G23s that I've had were definitely "harsh" and I didn't like them at all.
In the event that you wish to have an even better trigger with an M&P, all you need are the "drop-in" Apex Hard Sear and Apex Ultimate Striker Block, which transformed the trigger pull on my M&P45 to something wonderful. For some reason, the M&P45 models have a much heavier trigger than the .40S&W and the 9mm models do. My M&P40 and M&P40C, however, have wonderful triggers, right-out-of-the-box!
I went to the M&P40 after conversation with Dr. Gary Roberts, where he unequivocally gave the M&P40 a big "thumbs up" as being among the best available .40S&W platforms.
I decided to buy one and see for myself and in short order, my carry guns went from G19, G17RTF, G30 over to M&P40 and M&P40C.
These M&Ps launch .40S&W like you're shooting 9mm: quick, easy, soft-shooting, accurate, very comfortable. This was an unexpectedly refreshing experience while shooting .40S&W, which is so often called "snappy" and "harsh". The PLATFORM makes the difference!
The M&P40 turned .40S&W into my favorite carry caliber! Shoots like a 9mm, carries 16 rounds, and hits with .40S&W terminal ballistics. I can't argue against that!
