I just picked up a G43 today and was wondering how well it worked with +P ammo. I currently have a lot of Federal +P HST laying around that I use with my G34, but was not sure if its safe to fire +P in the G43 or how +P would feel in this small pistol.
115 Hardball, is fairly weak compared to NATO. (American Manufacturer's)
Therefore, +P will be slightly more powerful.
The gas pressure is higher, muzzle velocity is only slightly higher. Unless...you get the really hot stuff, as in Underwood ammo, etc.
There are many here who can share much better explicits on the many loadings for the 9mm. I will yield to them. However, I assure you, your weapon is designed to handle the NATO loading, being +p...
Shoot it. It's safe.
I actually using the 147gr HST +P, ballistics on that round looked amazing. Well thank you all for the feedback. Ill get this thing out to the range sometime soon and let it rip. I just wanted to make sure loading +P in this little guy was not a bad choice
I know that all of the HSTs have a reputation for expanding, regardless of barrel length. But out of an abundance of caution, I continue to think that in small barrels (like the 43 or Shield), having a higher velocity round makes sense. Thus, I think that your choice of HST 147 +p not only makes sense given that you have a lot of it on hand, but it's probably a good choice overall. My opinion only.
+P is no problem in the G43, though like most handguns, it's probably something that you don't want to or need to shoot all the time.
I've long carried 124 grain +P for 9X19, especially smaller pistols. Recently I've taken to using 147 gn standard pressure Winchester Train & Defend (D), due to excellent reports of reliability, feed, and performance.
i shoot 124 NATO with mine all the time no issues. I don't carry a plus p load but is should not be a problem. the recoil is fine. Just practice with some different loads until you find one you like. its a great gun and should serve you well.
I've shot several boxes or so of Speer +P 124-gr Short Barrel Gold Dots with no problem. I tested all 10 of my magazines with Pearce Grip +1 and Vickers +2 upgrades, including two unmodified flat-based ones.
I've shot some gold dot 124 gr +P, and have consistent failures to feed with it. I've got a fair supply of it on hand, as all my other 9mm pistols handle it without issue. My G43 runs ball ammo fine, but regularly chokes on the gold dots. Maybe I just need to try another defense round, but for now, I'm back to carrying my shield.
250+ rounds of Cor-Bon 115g DPX +P through my G43 and the inside looks like new.
No worries. Fire away.
