I have been thinking of getting another AR recently due to what's been going on in the world and the upcoming election. I currently have a BCM which I love so just wanted to pick up a budget AR. I should have purchased a few months ago because prices have went up recently. Well I came across Palmetto state armory. I discovered I could buy a complete lower and complete upper for cheap! I was somewhat reluctant because I've only had Colt and BCM and never put together my own AR. Well today I decided to purchase the following.

Lower http://palmettostatearmory.com/blem-ar15-complete-moe-plus-lower-black-1.html

upper http://palmettostatearmory.com/psa-...7-melonite-freedom-upper-with-bcg-and-ch.html

Total before shipping was only $499! Seems like everything gets good reviews so hoping that everything works. I know lots of people build using PSA. How do you guys like them? Do you think this will function fine? Figured if I don't end up liking it I could always sell it. I like that it has the Mid length gas system, 1/7 twist rate barrel etc. I don't expect it to be as nice as the BCM just hope its reliable.

Let me know what you think,

thanks

I've owned several PSA rifles with absolutely no problems. Also use lots of their parts for my, and my friends/customers builds. I stay away from their budget PTAC line of parts and rifles because I've heard of problems with fit/finish and durability. Their better quality parts are only a little more expensive.

PSA's premium line of CHF(cold hammer forged)barrels are made by FN, and are top quality. I had one of their 18" lighter profile 6.8 SPC II barrels that would shoot under 1" at 100 yards with several different types of ammo.

Definitely go pds premium line. I have one and it has performed flawless in the past 4 years. Mine is back when the barrels were FN marked but now they are still FN barrels with Psa rollmarks. Shoots right at 1-1.25 moa. I added their nib enhanced trigger with jp springs which is a amazing budget trigger. With the stock creppy and gritty trigger it was 2 or so moa.

I have built many ARs for friends and others and have tested many
PSA AR15, we can shoot everyday on this ranch even out to
1400yds. Have only tested the ARs to 600yds though.

This is a super shooter, have tested around five of these,

http://palmettostatearmory.com/psa-16-stainless-mid-length-1-7-freedom-rifle-kit.html

I like the 16'' SS barrels in the 1 in 8 and 1 in 7 twist, and with
NATO or Wylde chambers, everyone that I have tested will do
around 3/4 inch at 115 yds.

Have also tested the not CHF but CL barrels and have got
well under MOA even at 300yds.

I tested one of the SS 16'' Wylde 1 in 8 twists at 600 yds twice
and both times it shot around 3/4 MOA.

This is a good thing to look for in a bolt,

Bolt: Full-auto profile bolt carrier group. Milspec Carpenter No. 158® steel bolt, Shot Peened, High pressure tested, Mag particle inspected, Gas Key Hardened to USGI Specifications, Fastened with Grade 8 screws, and Staked Per Mil-Spec. 8620 steel M-16 profile carrier is chrome lined and phosphate coated.

We also have a bore scope and always check the smoothness of
the barrels, all of the SS barrels from PSA that I have looked in
were super, very little chatter, the more different barrels you look in the more
you can appreciate SS, it also lasts longer than many other kinds
of steels, probably not CL though.

Remember a smooth barrel will copper foul less and clean up
a lot faster, Copper Fouling In Barrels

We do a lot of checking the throats on the really long range guns
because they really eat the throats fast, some in as little as 50 shot you can see a change.

Thanks for the replies guys. I did order one (the one I posted links too). I'll be receiving it early next week. Sounds like everyone has positive things to say about them so that good!

I just put together my first AR using a complete PSA lower w/ STR stock. 190.00 shipped. Got my upper from Daytona Tactical for 324.00 shipped. Went together well.

I just bought a blem lower the other day. I will have it Saturday and plan to turn it into a light weight HD gun that will live outside the safe.

All my good stuff is locked away and not as easily gotten to, except for my CCW.

PSA seems to be 100% gtg. Some older issues of fsb not installed straight seems to be the only issues. I am getting a Freedom melonite pencil upper for my first and current build. I want the MOE pencil or A2 upper but they have been out of stock for a while so mil HG for now.

From my experience and my opinion of course. I stick with the PSA Premium uppers if going that route. They have the FN barrels and can be caught on sale for great prices as well. Not knocking on anyones Freedom or PTac uppers i base my opinion on preference and shooting with a friend that had a liberty upper tjat later switched to a premium with FN barrel.

I have 1 complete PSA, 1 with a PSA upper and internal parts, 1 with a PSA upper waiting to build when I get my stock from PSA and as soon as I see the right upper in stock, I'm building a an AR pistol from PSA parts. Very happy with them so far.

Saw an awesome deal in their sale email this week - a 9mm upper with hybrid bolt/carrier and 10 33 round glock 9mm magazines for $460. The magazines alone were worth $360. I nearly bought it just to keep the mags and sell the upper (I already the same upper on a rifle). I should have done it.

Since my initial order, I have ordered more.

More lowers, uppers, and magazines.
From looking over some of these parts, I have noted markings on some that you'd find in higher end guns. Which just reaffirms that there are not that many companies making the parts.

PSA has this cheap nickeled trigger group that came in one of my lowers. It's actually an excellent group. It makes for a 5 pound trigger with no take up, and a clean break. I do believe they sell them for less than 30.

The upper I attached to a lower and test fired, worked well, and is pretty solid. My BCG is F marked, and from what I gather those were FN made. The barrel is a 416R stainless in an Anchor Hocking marked upper. I don't know who made the barrel, but three barrel makers for PSA have been identified. Wilson Arms, Wilson Combat, and FN.

I don't know if any of them made it, but it is a nice barrel.

I am pleased as hell with my PSA purchases. They might not be a LaRue or Daniel Defense, but they'll still do the job...

Made my order and it has shipped out to me already. PSA shipping can be off and on. 16" midlength MOE pencile profile melonite Freedom upper. I have been happy with my PSA orders so far. NiBo BCG is nice blem free, Magpul MOE stock is real fit and finish is good, however it did not come in Magpul packaging. Not a big deal but it would be nice to have the box, sticker and random literature with it. I also am waiting for the MBUS rear signt from PSA, I am expectinb that to be genuine as well and not airsoft crap.
Current and first AR build:
Spikes stripped lower
DPMS LPK w/ polished mil spec trigger
BCM reciever extension
Magpul MOE stock
PSA NiBo full auto BCG
3 Magpul 30rd Pmags, 1 w/ window
Still waiting to be shipped:
PSA 16" midlength MOE complete Freedom upper
Magpul MBUS rear sight
BCM Mod4 charge handle
Final touches:
Magpul MOE grip
Magpul sling
Vortex Strikefire II red dot
Gun Firearm Photograph Trigger White

More on the PSA upper when i get it on the lower.

Because PSA is a builder, and half their stuff have MOE stocks. I would imagine that they are not purchased from Magpul in original individual boxes, but in large bulk packs.

The sight will be original Magpul, and not airsoft crap. I don't know if that will come in an original package, but since most PSA uppers come sans sights. It's a good bet it will be retail packaged.
