Mine is the Swiss K31 chambered in 7.5x55. I really like the straight-pull action. I like the feel of the rifle and you can tell it's built to a very high standard of workmanship with quality materials.
The two that I have are equally as accurate. Just great shooting rifles.
I also like the Swiss GP11 milsurp ammo. It's beautiful stuff and considered by some to be match grade. Unbelievable for ammo that is ~35 years old.

ETA: I forgot to mention the trigger on the K31. Outstanding. It's a two stage that breaks like a glass rod at ~3.5 lbs.

Beautiful, fnfalman! I am jealous!

You know, just a touch off thread, I always thought an M1 Carbine in 5.7 MMJ(.22 Spitfire) would be a handy rifle to have. Pretty good ballistics for a varmint round. Of course, the Mini 14 killed any chance of that. Sigh.
Topic for another day....

When you start loading JHP's in a .30 Carbine that little rifle gets big fangs. Inside of 200m a .30 Carbine with something like the Barnes X bullet has better barrier penetration than a 5.56 FMJ, and considerably more wounding ability.

Military surplus firearms have always seemed to be my favorite. I really enjoy the history and untold stories that they seem to possess. It really is a cool feeling to own a piece of history and Americana (I do have my share of other guns as well).

The two rifles that seem to stand out the most are the 1903-a3 and the M1 Garand. Both never fail to put a smile on my face.

I have the Carbine in 5.7 Johnson.
I had two. An original, which was lost in my shop fire and the second Carbine which I rebarreled to 5.7 Johnson and still have. I reload for it by necking down the 30 cal brass.
It does an even 3,000 FPS.

A Garand is pretty and has a lot of history going for it, but it is not a great shooter. The Garand was designed for a specific load and the gas system will beat itself to death if much modern ammo is fired through it.

Best MilSpec battle rifle to me is an FAL. I happen to have an L1A1 (Canadian) variant. Great ergonomics, decent sights and trigger. I get 2-3 MOA accuracy from mine with surplus German ammo. The adjustable gas system means you can reliably shoot pretty much anything in 7.62x51mm through it. The FAL is a good choice for reloaders also since the brass doesn't get mangled (thanks for nothing H&K).

I got mine for an incredible price (a buddy of mine was getting rid of all of his long arms due to health issues). Knowing what I know now, I would have paid twice what I did for it.

The top rail scope mount actually works well on my rifle (unlike the AK versions which suck). It is machined and is adjustable for clearance. I get almost no zero shift with this scope mount. A 1-4 power scope is about all this mount is really capable of using, but since that is what I wanted, I am good to go.

"Of those I have fired, I prefer the M1903A3 ('43 Remington)."

Back about 1960 and earlier anyone could buy new condition 1903A3 and A4 rifles from the government (yeah, OUR government) for $14.50 delivered to your door by the Post Office.
(Don't you feel much safer now days?)

The guns, including the 03A3 & A4, GI1911A1 ($17), M1 Carbine ($20) and M1 Garand ($?) were so cheap they were "sporterized" a good bit.

I bought a M1 Carbine, GI 1911A1, O3A3 and 03A4.
I removed some wood from the 03A3 and replaced the stock and shortened the barrel of my 03A4.

My 45 has gone through some changes since I bought it for $17 in 1960.

03A3
Even in 1960 $14.50 was dirt cheap.

03A4
Funny thing was, the included scope mount cost more in a gun store than the $14.50 the government was selling the whole new gun for.

Mine would be the M1 Garand. Loved it then, love it now. Second best would be a 6.5 x 55 mm. Swedish Mauser. Sweet little cartridge and rifle.
