I just got a used Glock 30 Gen 3 today. It was dirty and full of carbon. I detail-stripped it all down to clean everything. I found the firing pin safety looking terrible. It looks like it has some sort of finish and it is peeling off . I attached a picture of it. The gun still shot great but I am replacing the safety. I just happened to have a spare safety in my tool box and replaced it.
I have just never seen a Glock part look as if it is peeling. Kinda looks like chrome when it peels.
Never seen one do that...If it were mine, I would send it to Glock for their "Quality Control" folks to look at...you might get a new one in return mail
Yes return the safety to Glock and they will send you a new one. I keep spare Glock parts but seldom need them. They just run forever (most of the time.)
I am not so sure Glock would send you the safety with spring. As Mike-M states I would expect you would have to be an armorer to get the parts. Glock's position is they want armorer's to work on their pistols so the appropriate safety checks are done and all parts are also inspected for condition. Don't shoot the messenger. Just saying....
Oh I had a spare Glock 21/ 30 safety plunger in my tool box so it all worked out great . But it would be nice to be able to send the old one to them and get a new one .
Most Glock small parts are plated. Clearly that one is having issues with the plating. I wouldn't trust a gun with that going on... once those flakes start slowing down the striker, you're going to get light strikes. That being said, it's probably "safe" (as in won't go off when you don't want it to).
Those plungers are cheap. Buy a replacement. I'd be very careful to go over the rest of the pistol as well... who knows what's going in with it.
Always take a new weapon competely apart and clean and polish everything that is allowed to be polished.
I have a Dremel and some buffing 'rods' and Flitz and did the striker channel and the safety hole and the extractor channel as well as all the parts that fit there.
The only place I didn't polish was the 'sear' area.
A fingerprint film of marine grease where applicable and it's good to go.
Bought my gen 3, model 23 circa November 2004 used a few years ago. Being used, (and needing to bring the high-pound trigger down to 5-1/2) I disassembled everything and found the firing pin safety was peeling its plating. Replaced it and a connector.
