Went through several AIWB holster but settled on a trigger guard type such as the MIC or Vanguard 2 and each used with just a lanyard tied short to control ride depth.
Trigger guard is pulled off as soon as pistol clears belt and moves forward and is put back on before putting back into AIWB position.
I've been using a Raven Vanguard 2 for a couple of months now. There is a lot less bulk and the pistol rides exactly where I want it. Supported by a stiff belt from SOE belt.
Dale Fricke. He has no fewer than 6 options (mostly varying around the loops) for AIWB, plus he'll do custom work if the base designs don't do it for you.
I've bought and tried about twenty different dedicated-AIWB holsters. All have issues, but the single best one is called a Keeper. If you want to shorten your search, and to save money and to spare aggravation, I'd suggest that you start there.
I use a FIST ultra thin kydex holster with a metal clip for several of the guns I have and I AIWB. I guess I should try something new but it works for me and holster price is reasonable. Turn around time is about 10days.
I got one of these for AIWB carry, and it does the trick.
PROs
No interference from the bolsters.
Just as comfortable as 4:00 IWB, when standing.
CONs
Even when mounted as high as possible, the muzzle end of the holster still presses against my thigh a little, when seated.
I have a mostly flat waist, but I can tell that the bigger my spare tire gets, the more the gun's butt will be deflected out and the more the muzzle end will dig in.
Even though I know a holstered Glock is almost perfectly safe, I still don't like it pointed at my femoral artery, meaning
I really need to be careful drawing and holstering. Probably do a bunch of unloaded drills to reassure myself about my trigger discipline.
I just looked on their site and it says the 3 hole are "recommended" over the 4 hole. I wonder why?
Im thinking of ordering one for a g17. If i were to use the g17 model with a g26, would the added length flex or crack? A g17 model would be more versatile for me, just a thought.
The material they use is super sturdy, I don't think it will be an issue flexing or cracking.
Just a thought, I got mine for a full size 1911, but my main carry is a Commander. I ended up cutting off the excess holster to fit the commander, and if I carry a full size, I will just live with the pistol sticking out the end.
If I thought I'd carry a 26 I'd just get the holster for that.
The one I showed has two mounting holes, one for low and one for high. I liked the high because it 1) keeps the muzzle mostly off my thigh, and 2) has the grip ride about half an inch above my gun belt, allowing me to snake my fingers between the two to draw. The low set the grip right down on the belt, making drawing difficult for me.
YMMV
