Sometimes I do, sometimes I carry my G26 or G19. I load mine with Underwood +P 90gr XTP JHP. Seems like the XTP bullet is the best performing .380 acp bullet and the UW +P was made wuth the G42 in mind. 1200fps.
BTW, I know there is no "+P" 380, but that is what UW advertises.
Depends on the person. If you don't have a 42, but can handle the extra recoil of the 43, I'd recommend the 43. I carry a Shield at work, because double stack guns (even baby Glocks) are too big. When I'm not working I carry a 19.
I carry mine in a fobus OWB holster under my shirt. Love the way it shoots, feels. For deep carry I go with my S/W Bodyguard in a Blackhawk pocket holster.
Now that I'm retired from the PD and living in an area with amazingly low crime rates, the 42 is my EDC; replacing Airweight/Airlite J-frames that I pocket carried for 30+ years. When I go to less friendly places, I use my old G19 in a belt holster (IWB or OWB).
For me, the G42 is a perfect pocket gun but not for belt carry. If I'm going to the trouble of a belt holster, cover garment, careful when bending over, etc; then I'll use the G19.
For me, the G43 is neither fish nor fowl. I find it just a bit too big and heavy for pocket carry, but not that much more comfortable on the belt than my G19.
For pocket carry, a pocket holster is important, I happen to use a Desantis Pocket Tuk.
I'll tell you what. I was a little surprised at the bark that came out of the G42 with the UW load. I was shooting a box of Atlanta Arms fmj and then ran a few mags of the UW +P and wow! they hit the steel much much harder! I'm pretty confident carrying this little package.
I just sold my G42 for the LCP. Huge difference in carry-ability. A bit more recoil on the LCP, but nothing too objectionable. I carry my LCP and it's not noticeable. The G42 was always getting in the way.
Depends on the anticipated needs, experience and skillset of the individual.
Like another retired poster, I live in an area and enjoy activities that usually produces a rather low risk assessment in my opinion. That being the case, and often wearing pants with lighter/smaller pockets, my J-frames have been spending more time in the safe, replaced by one or the other of my LCP's.
I still run all my larger belt guns for training, along with my J's & LCP's, and I can always resort to a belt gun if my planned activities make it seem prudent ... but it's the LCP's that get the majority of my retirement & LEOSA carry chores nowadays.
Matter of fact, the only LEOSA weapon I brought along on my current out-of-state road trip is my newer stainless LCP.
I looked at a G42 when I picked up my second LCP (and I could've got one for less than the LCP), but it's simply too large for my desire when it comes to a pocket-holsterable .380 pistol.
Different strokes.
Luckily for all of us, the gun companies have been offering us a huge increase in selection of options in recent years.
I carry a Glock 42 daily in my front pocket at work. It ensures 100% I'll always be armed. It becomes my back up weapon otherwise as a Glock 19, 23, 26, or 27 is usually on my person when not a work.
I actually sort of prefer my G42 over the G43 for EDC, especially during the summer here in Phoenix. I pocket carry to and from work as it makes removing and locking up my gun in my toolbox and re-arming is as simple as dropping a gun in my pocket. I found it is also easier to deal with on a regular basis. I like the 43 but I love the 42. I will probably carry the 43 more once my kydex shell arrives from Alien Gear.
During the summer with a good carry ammo selection the 380 Glock should be sufficient to deter or repel an attack. However, when the weather cools back down I will be carrying at least the 43 if not my 19.
If you can live with .380 power, the Glock 42 is a real sweetheart.
