?'s on installing Pearce extensions....

I have a few pearce extensions coming in the mail and am not sure how to install them. There is a video on you tube that walks througgh the process but it appears that he is using an armorers tool.....is there a specific tool I can buy some where local to take the base of the stock mags off?

An armorer's tool is a handy tool to have. Check out Randy Smith's video in our gunsmithing forum. It's a stickie at the top.

You can use a small allen key or a thin punch. It's just so much easier with a Glock tool. Following the prescribed procedure, it takes about 3 seconds to remove the base.

1. Insert the Glock tool, smartly, all the way to the handle, flipping the magazine insert over on it's side.

2. Using the inserted tool as leverage, pull the base forward 1/2in while squeezing the tube with your weak hand.

3. Remove the tool, cover the base with your weak hand while sliding the base plate off. This enables you to catch the spring and insert before they go flying across the room.

A common butter knife,in between the base and the floor plate.
apply a little upward pressure on the knife while slipping it past the mag indents that keep it secured to the floor plate.
watch out for the mag spring while slipping the floor plate or mag plate off the mag body.
you also need to push in the circular pillar in the middle of the floor plate or mag plate to release the plate from the base.
it'll only slide one way also.
reverse process to get the new extension on.
a butter knife and a center punch.

An Armorers tool is a fine thing to have.
3 Glocks later and doing all my own upgrades,I still don't have one.
The proper tool for the proper job,but if your tool inclined you can do any task at hand with several punches and pliers on any Glock.

Everyone makes it sound so simple. I have done four of my various magazines, and everytime, I ended up prying the stock base off with two screwdrivers. Very frustrating. (Yes I push the spring base plate in with an allen wrench first).

I also found I can not get the second round in a plus two, and the third round in a plus three. It feels like I am going to brake something.

All that being said, I still like the Pearce grip extensions. It is not their fault the stock bases are hard to remove, and I don't try to stuff the extra second or third round in anymore.

You have to do more than just push the insert down. You must push far enough to flip it over and out of the way The insert is a clever locking device that prevents a speed unload. You cannot squeeze the tube to disengage the locking lugs unless the insert is flipped on it's side.

No matter what you use they are not the easiest to get off. Always seems harder than it should be. I just wait until I get mad then for some reason they come off.

Install Pierce grip, go shoot it, then uninstall Pierce grip because that motherfu**er pinchs your pinky finger every time you pull the trigger! At least that's the case (was the case) on my G26...so I switched over to the G19 mag with the DG extension.

Once you do one or two it'll be a lot easier in the future.
I just put a Pierce ext on 2 of my G36 mags. One was alittle more diffeicult but total time was about 3 minutes

The first one took me literally 2 hours. Now I can do it in about 15 seconds. Once you learn how to do it...no problem. Don't be gentle, it takes a little muscle.

I'm getting old, and fat. I used to be able to remove a base behind my back in 3 seconds. Now it takes me 4 seconds.

SCC,

As you know, the procedure is so simple that most Glock owners cannot comprehend it. Most want to over-complicate the task by introducing pliers, vice grips, c-clamps, hair dryers and boiling water.

Geez...this REALLY IS so simple! I use a 3/32" punch and push the insert until it clicks out of the way. Then, just squeeze the sides of the mag body (no pliers needed) and slide the base plate off with the punch that's still in the mag.

Exactly!

Once you do it, it's amazing how simple it really is.

I just pried the stock base plate off the magazine. I won't need them anyway after I installed the new Pearce magazine extensions. Works everytime.
