Tactical Shotguns

Here's my Saiga 12 with the MD20 drum on it. It took me a little while to get it all "tuned up" but now it is eating up any kind of ammo I can throw at it. Glad I was able to purchase it before the prices starting jumping.

The initial conversion wasn't too rough. Took a few hours. (trigger moved forward, folding stock installed). It is really made as a combat shotgun, so it is designed for slugs, or maybe buckshot, but certainly now wimpy bulk pack bird shot. So it didn't like that at first. (it did love slugs) Upon inspection, two of the three gas ports were covered up by the gas block, so I had to take it all apart, enlarge the hole in the gas block (dremel and file) and I also slightly increased the size of the three holes (up to 3/32). Now, it fires the bulk federal from W-world no problem.

Intimidating semi-auto shotgun. I wouldn't want to take a hit from it. Heck, I wouldn't even want to get poked with the shark brake I've got on the front of it. (pretty damn sharp).

I've got a couple AGP 10 round mags that I like, along with the factory 5 mag from Russia. --

Better hang on to it. I heard from my local shop that these things weren't being imported anymore and that there was some kind of ban on them. Not sure if that's true, but the prices have gone through the roof on these shotguns.

Well, there is no ban on them yet, but there is some truth to the rumor. The BATF is doing a review of some classification, and it is possible that their status could be changed. As a result, there is a holdup of further shipments being imported at the moment.

So technically, it is just a delay. But the uncertainty has really pushed prices up. Now that I have one, i really would love another. (definitely not selling this one). The last few out there at sub-$700 prices are just about gone. And the future is a big question mark.

My local fun shop in town had one in 410 for a long time, I went there the other day and talked to the guy and he said shortly after the rumor/anouncement came out it sold...

After experimenting with various stocks, sights, etc., I think I have finally found the perfect (for me, anyway) non-SBS configuration for a home defense 870. A Remington 18" rifle-sighted, improved cylinder fixed choke barrel, Speedfeed reduced-LOP stock, Sidesaddle, Wilson +2 mag extension, Surefire 618 forend and XS Express 24/7 Big Dot sights.

Here is mine. Bought it off of a coworker for 180$ basically brand new, probably under 25rds shot through it when I got it. Just your standard run of the mill Remington 870 express magnum. Bought it as a 24inch ribbed barrel version with wood stock and fore end and added some parts. 18inch police barrel, +2 WC extension and adjustable knoxx stock. I would have just cut the 24inch barrel down to 18 but I wanted to keep it for shooting clays or other things.

Here is my shotgun.....plain and simple.

AI&P Basic I with 13" LOP remington stock and R3 pad. The thing just plain runs, even though i dont shoot it nearly enough. I need to take it out a lot more this summer.....ive been giving the pistols all the range time.

I have been thinking of doing the same thing except with the 20 inch barrel how do you like this set up so far. Any changes you would make ?

Bikerdog,

I am really enjoying the setup thus far.

The XS big dot is the bomb. I like a bead on HD shotguns so this is well, a better bead. Just so you know, if you install one of the epoxy on beads you might have to take a jewelers file to your existing bead to get it to mount properly. The factory bead is too tall but judicious use of the file will make it all right.

The Hogue 12" LOP buttstock definitely works far better for me. Even though I have some long a** monkey arms for a 5'10" guy, I can get squared up to the target far better. So now, I am able to get more body behind the shotgun. This assists me in mitigating the recoil substantially.

Another benefit to the short LOP buttstock, for me, is that now the throw on the forend doesn't take as much to get a full stroke. Since I've moved my body closer to the forend. Duh.

The Hogue forend is in my opinion better since it isn't as slippery as the factory forend and its kinda squishy too. To me, its a better forend.

No complaints with my setup at all. To rehash the above.

I intend on mounting a light at some point, but I haven't decided on a mount yet. Maybe I won't put one on there. Who knows? I kinda like the quick, lean and mean version I have going on.

Hope that answered your question?
Anthony
