Should "Feeler" Ads Be Permitted in For Sale Section?
Poll Question: Should "Feeler" Ads, Including "Testing the Waters", Be Permitted in For Sale Section?
A "feeler" to me is a chance for the seller to back out on a deal and say, "I was just 'feeling' out interest". An item for sale should be a Yes or No deal based on an agreement on the listed price and terms.
I equate "feelers" to the current GT ban on "auction-type" listings (e.g. price not listed for WTS listing). For example, a "feeler" listing does not mean you see if someone will pay your listed price, then either renig and repost later to see if someone else will pay more, or see if you get higher offers via PM.
Posting an item for sale means you will sell the item at the listed price and terms if a buyer accepts both. An item is for sale, or it's not, period.
Poll Question: Should "Feeler" Ads, Including "Testing the Waters", Be Permitted in For Sale Section?

If you want to sell it or trade then do it. If you're not sure, don't.

I'd agree with that. Its poor salesman ship and unethical to boot.

But if you don't know how much something may be worth, where and how do you find out so you can decide whether to sell? This forum affords that venue, where others might not. As long as the ad says up front that a person is trying to decide whether to sell, I see no problem. Caveat emptor.

do research if you don't know how much something is worth. post in general discussion. there is no need to do your research in the want ads. that is undermining and boardering on auctioneering.

This forum is suppose to better the people who visit it. So asking a question, or posting a possibility is the point.

I think the poll is set up in a misleading way. The subject line says:
Quote:
|
Vote to Ban "Feelers" for all For Sale Ads?
|
implying that a "yes" vote is a vote to ban feelers.
But when you vote the question is:
Quote:
|
Should "Feeler" Ads Be Permitted in For Sale Section?
|
so a "yes" vote is a vote to permit feelers.
Folks who vote based upon the subject line without closely reading the header will choose the wrong answer.

I know. I added the blue question at the top to help. But realized the subject line issue after posting and the subject line won't update in the main forum screen even though I changed it right away. Bummer.

"Feeler" ads are one of my pet peeves. Sell it, don't sell it, I really don't care, but make up your mind before wasting my time.

Yes. No, wait- No!
I mean no feeler ads. If you don't know what your gun is worth, here's your "feeler"- just google other G.B., G.A., and forum listings to find out what it's selling for.

Why not just have a "feeler" option, or a feeler subforum.
Otherwise, a no vote..

You know what should be banned? People like 30brandon who say, "I'll take it." but never do. They do this in several threads and only honor the one they really want. It's his way of holding the item until he decides what he really wants.

Let me clarify my vote. Feeler ads should not be allowed.....
Something else that shouldn't be allowed..... Someone posts they did something to their pistol, and wants to know if they messed it up. Then you get some wiseass who says "Yes, and I will take it off your hands... for free even..." That kind of comment should be banned UNLESS it is followed up by helpful info.....
