Instructors fingerprinting in Virginia question

Hey All,

Got a question i can't seem to find answers to via the internet. So, Like many people around here. I'm an NRA certified instructor. I'm ramping up to do it quite a bit more often and more formal than i've done in the past. Initially i did it just so I knew my friends and family around me were getting the proper level of training. Now im starting to start spreading my reach as i've had quite a few people come to me requesting it.

In researching the market, I'm seeing a lot of people offering fingerprinting on site for folks CHP. How the heck are they getting the blessing to do that for the state of VA? I understand the guys that are registered DCJS Schools, I went through them when i got my "guard card" but what about these guys offering concealed carry classes? How does one go about getting approved to do fingerprinting? I'd love to be able to offer that service?

Any advice here is much appreciated.

Thank you everyone,

Jason

Why not just contact DCJS in Richmond and ask them

I will if it comes down to it but they're always short staffed and extremely busy. Figure I'd reach out to the community first before i go bugging them. There are lots of instructors out on the forums, hopefully one of them will be kind enough to share some knowledge with me.

I thought we got the finger print requirement removed in VA back in 2012...

"Effective July 1, 2012, localities are prohibited under HB 754, patroned by Delegate Ben Cline (R – Amherst), from requiring CHP applicants to provide fingerprints. And under SB 563, patroned by Senator Frank Ruff (R – Clarksville), local circuit courts will be both prohibited from requesting “information or documentation other than that which is allowed on the application,” and required to issue permits "via United States mail."

I looked a little closer into it. You're absolutely right. Been awhile since i've looked at the process. Theres no longer anything on the VSP website stating it.

Still wouldn't mind figuring out how one goes about getting approved to do it but that'll make life a whole lot easier.

Thank you
