Sd 9 ve

My friend just picked up a SD 9 VE. He's been looking for a 9mm auto for a while, but money has been the issue. Found it for $339 and they sold it to him for $319. Not a bad price I thought for a new 9mm, plus it's a "Smith", so how bad can it be? I looked into it for him and found out the VE is the updated SD or 'value edition'? Anybody have any thought or experience with this model? I do know the older SD had a tritium front sight and at one time S&W were offering a 'home defense' package with a light and lockbox. Something like a NanoVault. Too bad he couldn't get that. I also heard the SD is the new Sigma. The Sigma is no longer available. No loss there I thought. Thanks for any input.

The SD9 is a solid pistol. When I put my M&P on layaway. It felt great and the trigger wasn't horrible. I'd be ok carrying one. I'm looking at one just to have when I have available funds.
