Some of you have incredible collections. Here's a pic of my very modest collection.

The majority of my collection are Spydercos but these 3 are in my usual rotation, the 301 being carried the most.

Benchmade 950 Rift. Recently went searching for a new EDC, and had certain features I was looking for:

Thumb stud opening - no assistance of any kind
Extremely grippy handle
Tip-up carry with belt-clip
Meaty blade under 4" long
The "wow" factor

I was stuck between a couple of Benchmade models and an Emerson CQC-7. I have hands that are sometimes too large for XXL-sized gloves so I was only considering knives I could get to hold/handle before I purchased which ultimately, despite a serious effort on my part, ruled out the Emerson - I simply could not find one locally I could try.

The Benchmade's I were considering were the 940 and the 520. The 520 was very nice - felt great in the hand. But it had an "evil knife" look that would have screamed "Human Resources wants to see you right now" if the wrong co-worker had caught a glimpse of it. The 940 was my favorite based purely on the aesthetics - the Osborne design was just beautiful, but after handling it at my local Victorinox, I realized the handle was way too small and had virtually no grip.

I hadn't even seen the 950 before I went to the store but they had one on display and I fell in love the minute the salesman pulled her out of the case. The stepped G10 micarta scales create an fantastic grip surface without being abrasive. The blade is very meaty and the reverse-tanto design adds strength without looking as "stumpy" as most other tanto's do.

Overall I'm very happy with my purchase. Two weeks after I purchased it I was in a tile store looking at some tile for a bathroom remodel and the salesman needed to open a box of tiles to show me some new product he'd gotten in that day ... I stupidly handed him my Rift instead of gingerly slicing through the tape he pushed the blade all the way through the box and ran the blade hard across the tile. He destroyed the edge and even ended up scratching up the sides of the blade pretty bad. I called up Benchmade and they'll put a new blade on any knife for $25 to $35 - so my Rift is at BM as I write this getting a new, laser-marked blade attached.

No, I will never lend this knife out to a non-knife person again.

I have always had a preference for Gerber Blades.

Neither Fallkniven nor Opinel are very well represented in this picture thread.
