You are right sir!

Wow

There are a lot of people that as in all of life look at themselves as the do all end all of knowledge! I personally choose a Ruger SR22p as my temp carry weapon until I can get a Taurus PT 22 POLY. My other guns are a M and P 22 laser equipped nitestand gun as well as a Sig 522 rifle. My physical condition limits my hand strength-had to sell my SR9 because I couldn't rack the slide. Carpal tunnel surgery and the re-occurrance of that condition as well as arthritis have taken their toll yet I have seen the damage done with a 22lr. 3people dead at a school not far from me and a bar owner killed last year with a 22 handgun. Plenty of examples on you tube leave me assured that I can shoot more rounds more accurately to accomplish what I hope never needs done. Sorry so many will think I am an idiot but that's where I am coming from and also try to live a non threatening lifestyle but I know that you never know where danger is lurking!

Gander Mntn. is selling the latter for $280, in stock. Do you think it's reliable enough for self defense? Me, I'd go with the Ruger LCP which is lighter and I recently saw it on sale for just $5 more (great price considering the times we're in!), but of course it's not a .22 and it has a hefty recoil.

After my own horrible experience with a Taurus PT22, I would not buy another Taurus-anything. I certainly would not pin my HD hopes on one.
I am one who feels that a reliable 22lr loaded with good ammo and used resolutely and with skill is a viable weapon.
I also feel that the Ruger SR22 pistol may be the best SD rimfire made. The only rimfire pistol I would rather have for carry is the discontinued Beretta 70, a fine gun with an actual history of combat use.

No, and the thought never crossed my mind. If you made me id go for that Kel-Tec PM30 pr what ever it is in .22 WMR. But other than that of course id never just use that for HD..but just going on if there was no other choice.

Nothing wrong with rimfire for home defense, necessarily, but I STRONGLY advise you use a revolver or lever action. This eliminates half of the problems you get shooting rimfire (feeding/cycling/ejecting). The other half can be mitigated with quality ammo. I don't use .22LR for defense, but all my .22's have their mags/tubes loaded with CCI MiniMags, just in case. I would also suggest stepping up to .22 WMR if possible.

I'd stick with the Ruger.

I have a older PT22. It's a good gun but it has FAT grips and that makes it hard to carry.

The new POLY PT22's have great reviews. I have an SR22 and believe it to probably be as good as if not better than the Beretta 70. Similar size, holds more rounds, rail for laser newer technology-polymer. I just have no problems with it. The Taurus would need to prove its reliability but I lead an unremarkable life and dont frequent those areas where a 12 guage wouldnt cut it either. An 11 oz,cheap to practice with reliable Poly 22 in my pocket that has second strike capability would make me comfortable and is better to conceal than my revolvers.

M&P 22LR. it will shoot anything all of the time. Great handgun with CCI Stingers or even Federal bulk for target practice. Shoots first , every time.

So James Markov, you started this thread 8 years ago in 06, then revived it after being dead for almost a a year. Anything change since then?

Gunblast doesn't review anything unfavorably. The reviews are a waste of time, in my opinion.
