Besides not being accurate, a hit from the side of the bullet might not penetrate as well as the tip of the bullet.

I am one for NOT using the .22 as a Primary weapon....however if you do a little research on ER visits....people shot with .22's outweighs all other caliber of gun shot wounds, whether they be criminals that have been shot, or just accidents.

I gotta 597 with a 30rd mag filled with winchester expediters, which function perfectly, move out at 1640fps and weigh 32grs. let me volley 30 of them at you, or 10 at that, and lets see if you stay in my home. A .22 with the right ammo will be sufficient for home defense....But i have a beretta 92 with corbons on the nightstand, 870 with double O's next to it, AND (i know, i have issues) a semi auto 30-06 with 10rd mag next to that. Im paranoid i guess, but im ready for anything that shows up, be it deer, groundhogs, or hoodrats. Im covered.

How does the Winchestor Expeditors preform vs. a CCI Stinger? Haven't heard much on the Winchestor round...

Rimfire Handgun Chronograph Test Results

By Chuck Hawks and Jim Fleck

For a long time now we have had access to chronographs, first the Gun Club's Oehler with sky screens 10' apart, and later a compact Shooting Chrony self-contained unit. This has allowed us to do a fair amount of chronograph testing. A good part of that testing involved rimfire cartridges, as both Jim and I are rimfire fans.

Please remember that these tests were conducted over a period of years using two different chronographs. The various guns were tested at different times, using different lots of ammunition, even when the same brand and load of ammunition is identified.

Some of the results of that testing are presented below, divided into calibers (.22 LR HV, .22 LR Std. Vel., and .22 WMR). The test guns are identified above the chronograph results achieved by that pistol.

Listings are by: Brand, Bullet weight and type - Average instrumental velocity at 10' from muzzle, Extreme velocity spread (ES).

Nope, I believe the hardest hitters are CCI Velocitors for weight/velocity and their very tiny hollow point penetrates well.
