Is the .22lr drought finally over?

Just as California is starting their real drought, it looks to me like the .22lr drought is over or certainly easing, anyway in the Mid-South. Went to WM, Academy and Sportsman's Warehouse today and they all had a bunch of .22. Still rationing, but there was a lot there. Various 50rd boxes and a few bricks, including Federal Automatch. Have the hoarder's basements finally become full?

I've seen a lot of .22 ammo. See far more at local gun stores and pawn shops the the big box stores.

I still have 500rd bricks with a Wal-Mart $8.97 tag on them.

Still pretty dry hereabouts. If a store gets in a particularly large shipment, it might last a day or two, but if it's the good plinking (cheap bulk-packed HP) stuff, it still goes fast. Even the more expensive CCI loads sell quickly. One of the Walmarts got in a bunch of CCI Stingers, and I though that between the cost and the 3-box limit, they'd have some on the shelf for awhile, but it was all gone in under two days.

We are seeing more regular shipments to most of the stores, but there are still a lot of folks in the surrounding rural areas who are completely "out", and have been for over a year.

For awhile in March it seemed like it here in AZ. Bass Pro was getting some in 3 times a week or so, but lately it seems to have slowed down again. Wal-Mart here in Mesa hasn't seen any in over a month or so.

When I can walk into Wal-Mart in the middle of the afternoon and see .22 lr on the shelves, then I will believe its over . . .

Shelves are still pretty bare in this area unless you're in a particular gun shop that wants $60 for a 550 round brick of Federal. No thanks...

I've been picking up bulk packs at Walmart (3 at a time) over the past month or so. $23.77 for the 550 round boxes. Not the $14.97 I was paying a few years ago, but not bad for today.

Not here in the Detroit area. I haven't seen it in ages. The only thing I see I sx the inflated online prices and I'm not going to spend a hundred dollars on a bulk pack.

Still dry here. Walk into Wal-mart and there's nothing for .22lr. Academy has usually been pretty good about getting .22lr in stock and keeping it in stock, but they only let you buy 2, maybe 3, 50-100 rounds boxes, or one box if it holds more than 300 rounds.

The prices haven't been great, but at least they usually have some, unlike Wal-mart.

Still dry in Decatur, IL. I'm considering ordering a 5000 ct case for $515 shipped. I know it's too expensive but I'm tired of looking and it should last me for the rest of my life.

Nothing around here. And, every time I get an email / text alert from Midway USA, they are sold out when I click the link. And, it's that way when I IMMEDIATELY go to their website when I get the "in stock" alert. Every single time... sold out... within 1 minute of getting the alert.

when people are selling 500 round bricks for $45+ (twice the price as before the panic buying), no it is not over.

LAX Ammo sent me an email that they had CCI Mini Mag back in stock. Clicked the link and already sold out. It's not over.

Same with midwayusa. They keep sending me text messages that they have bulk in stock but by the time I load the website, they're sold out. I'm thinking employees.

It has happened several times over the past three months. I have yet to see ANY .22 at Wal-Mart here in San Antonio.

It ain't over!

Still no 22 here, in Walmart or LGS. Most of the rest of the calibers are back, though. Except for 8mm Mauser for some reason.

I am still curious where all the 22 is?? My understanding is that the factorys are making more 22 than they ever have. There's got to be houses full of the stuff at this point!

Yep. It's happened to me countless times at this point. I can access their website within seconds of the alert, and it's always sold out.... in seconds. Oh... they canceled my backorder for minimags (over a year). Then... IMMEDIATELY after getting my email about the cancellation, I got an email that minimags were in stock! No kidding. I went immediately to the website... sold out.

I emailed Midway about this. I'm a long-time customer who has spent thousands with them. Long story short... I got a bull**** evasive answer about demand and availability. I've been a fan of Midway for a long time. But, the luster dulled considerably.

I travel three states weekly. I don't even recall the last time I've seen any on a shelf.
