I use the TMK ( http://www.thetmk.com/home.html) attached to my top shirt button. We have those old school metal shirt buttons with the cotter pin backings. I had to open up the TMK's button channel a little bit but once I did that, it worked like a charm. Drops the mic down slightly and more importantly, attaches it to my shirt securely (the mic's clip won't stay attached to just the shirt fabric--always falls off). You can also attach it to the button on your shoulder epaulette, assuming that your uniform has one. I used to mount mine there but I prefer to have the mic positioned near my sternum. GT Distributors sells the TMK, as do other retailers I'm sure.
Glad to hear that the 5.11 Holster Pouch is working for you.

This is from like 3 pages back, because I don't look at this thread very often, but I also carry my mags there; in a G&G open top case. Same place off duty, same draw, etc.

I go up the back on the same side as the radio (not across the back), under the epaulet, and then clipped to the open collar kind of upside down. Even if it falls off while running, it is tethered by the epaulet. Plus, in a high noise enviornment, you can unclip it from the open collar and let it dangle from the epaulet, which causes the coil cord to pull the mic up / backwards and basically plant it in a position to project right into your ear.
Hmm, reading over that, it sounds really confusing. Sorry.

Very cool, thanks! I'm ordering one now. Just one question, im guessing the alligator clip on the back of my mic I just rotate sideways and it clips inside the opening on the front?

I use this and love it! There's also something available called the walkieclip, which is basically a stiffened piece of nylon with a D-ring. There are different versions to clip on the epaulet button, front shirt button, and tactical chest rig. I went with the TMK mainly because my department doesn't allow cordura looking nylon but this is still a viable option.

Okay the latest version of my belt with the 5.11 open mag carrier, and three sets of cuffs; Still with a little open space in the back I might add.

I too use the TMK on the shoulder. Can't work without it.

That's what I do. I'm waiting to be issued a Motorola APX6000. BladeTech is coming out with a TekLok belt holder for the APX series next month. They are supposed to call me when its ready.
I don't care for remote mics. I've also found my reception to be better on my statewide XTS5000 without a mic attached.

I love the remote mic. My radio pouch is just that, a pouch, with a button down bungee cord for retention. To use it as a real handheld, I have to either leave it unclipped, or unclip it everytime to take it out to transmit.
One time the radio went flying out when I had to run after a suspect. So... I use a remote mic everytime. Saves me the trouble and I also can hear it better with the mic next to my ear on the lapel.

My pouch from Center of Mass holsters is open top kydex and holds the radio in with friction. I don't work in CA but I've been known to stir up a foot chase now and again. Never lost my radio. I did temporarily lose a G26 from an ankle holster after scaling a cinderblock fence.
I can hear fine without the Mic and earpiece. Only time I use them is if I am working a highway/interstate district with bad weather and I know I will be wearing a big coat.
I also use an earpiece on overtime gigs at our event centers. Concerts are loud!

Nice, but I highly recommend you remove the labels off the your spare glock magazine(s). One rainy day during firearms training I watched a guy fumbling with a magazine trying to load it into his gun during qualifications. Turns out the label on his magazine started peeling due to the rain and 'effed his shiz up! Just a heads up!

Appreciate the tip...shows how often I shoot them, only when the dept. qual comes around. I probably try to clean them up tonight.

Put talcum powder all over your hands before you shoot. It'll make you very popular when you pat guys on the back for a job well done!

Actually one of my sgts has started doing this...sometimes it doesn't seem effective because when he's out of the car dispatch has to call him more than once, due to him not hearing them.
Another sgt, now lt, used to do it, with the sound reasoning of him getting the antenna higher when he raised the portable to his mouth so that line-of-sight to the tower was improved. Of course he's also over 6' tall so it worked for him.
I debated on doing this awhile back when the shoulder mic I had was crap. Basically I could hear but still had to pull the portable off my hip to transmit. Got a new mic and then thanks to a MFF got a new radio with a new mic which has worked great thus far.

Definitely not. In my mind, the radio is my lifeline to backup and also allows me to be a lifeline to my fellow officers. Having it way down on my belt is nothing but a hindrance. There is NO WAY that you can hear radio transmissions as reliably and as clearly when the speaker is located down there.
I currently wear a listen-only earpiece and a multi-function shoulder mic (attached to my sternum). This setup lets me turn my volume down very low and still hear every nuance in the voices of the dispatchers and my fellow officers. I can also grab the mic and transmit very quickly without having to move my hands very far from centerline, remove the radio from its pouch, or crane my neck. In a noisy environment, I can turn the volume up and still hear just as clearly as I can in a quiet environment. The setup also allows me to go into quiet settings and keep from being a distraction to others. And there's the added officer safety benefit of suspects not hearing positive warrant hits over the speaker.
I just can't tell you how important I think earpieces are. If you get the right one, it can be worn for 12+ hours without discomfort. But if for some reason you choose not to use one (I can't imagine why), please at least use a remote mic. The belt radio only is a very bad and archaic method, in my opinion.

I've always used Earphone Connect. They work really well. I prefer the earpiece that is skeletonized and open rather than the earplug style (lets you still hear ambient noise). I currently use the Fox model in conjunction with my shoulder mic, though I used to use the Hawk lapel mic setup.

I hear it all the time because the Hawk is issued to our officers. It is excellent unless there is wind. That will be a problem with just about any mic. I say just about any because some of the newer Motorola shoulder mics have windproof technology. Included in that is the Commander II mic, which I use. It has a special windscreen which helps A LOT with wind noise.

Sounds like you're talking through a pillow. VERY muffled, and lacks fidelity. You get what you pay for, and I wouldn't skimp on radio equipment.
https://shoppcl.com/store/ <---They invented the transducer earpiece, and still make the best earpieces.
http://www.tacticalcommandstore.com/ <---Good source for high quality radio earpieces/mics, etc.
