Other than looking like a bad factory reject does the tear drop add anything functional to the rifle?

This is my MP-15. EOTech 557 & 3 Power flip to side magnifier on Larue mount, and a green Beamshot laser. I really like the Mako fore grip with bi-pod & light built in. I'm waiting on a Larue stock. A little trigger work and a suppresor and I should be done, or will I?
