Ok, I see what you mean. Does anybody KNOW who is right, I thought I was but I'm not sure anymore.

The firing pin does have "free play" when the firing pin cups are at the forward position. When you press down the firing pin safety (on a removed slide) you can move the firing pin forward and back without any spring tension.

In other words when you pull the striker back and release it slowly (firing pin pressed down) with your fingers you can feel that the firing pin spring cups contact the slide first before the firing pin protrudes from the firing pin hole on the slide. This, in my opinion, indicates that the animation is correct.;Q Anybody?

Great work.

Did STI give you the go ahead to use the same code? Or did you build it from scratch? Will you be releasing a screensaver as they did?

Thanks,
-Mathew

The same code wouldn't work with the Glock, it's too different.
Had to build it from scratch. I was planning on releasing a screensaver, but as things are now I don't have the time to do it.

Did you get the idea and layout from STI? Or are you the creator of the STI one? I see Glock was not interested in buying your creation, I would assume that if you are the creator of both that STI did buy?

I made both. STI liked my work, Glock didn't. ;Q

That explains a lot!

Looks like a lot of measuring of parts to create each object in flash. Did you have images of each part or did you do all the dimensions/drawings by hand?

Any plans to make an interface that allows us to slow and speed up the animation?

I think that would be crucial for your market (training)

Thanks again,
-Mathew

Everythng has to measured and drawn by hand. And that takes A LOT of time. In fact thats whre most of the time is spent. Once the parts are done, the animation is not so time consuming.

The Glock 17 took 8 months when I worked on it on the evenings and weekends and it only had 33 parts. I started an ar-15 project a while ago and the amount of work seems overwhelming to an extent that I have stopped that project for a while. It just doesn't seem worth the effort when there is a good chance I will just end up giving it away for free (just like the Glock version).

I never thaught about speeding up / slowing down the animation, I'll have to look into that.

I imagine that speed control/step by step animation would not be that hard to do and would totally rule.

Thanks,
-Mathew
