I called and asked about my order a couple weeks ago. He said he didn't like the way his .45Colt loads were performing so he's reworking them. Call n' place an order. It'll help keep the pressure on.

My impression was he wanted better accuracy and wasn't willing to back off on the power to get it.

Honestly, I have never owned a .45 Colt anyhting. If I was going to get one I would jump straight to .454 instead.

No offense.

I am sure that there IS a market for you to sell .45Lc profitably. However, I will stick with either .44 Mag for most things in that arena or if I need more I will go all the way up to .454.

I think that an important question though is whether or not the Ruger/FA only loads are safe in a modern production Marlin 1894's, Winchester 1894's, or the Rossi 1892 clones.

Buffalo Bore's "Ruger Only" loads are safe to shoot in Marlins and Winchesters.

Tim at Buffalo Bore can also load you custom 45 Colt loads that duplicate 454 Casull factory loads. These loads are mainly for 5 shot conversion 45 Colt revolvers and leverguns.

Mike - whatcha think - should be safe for all modern guns, and the wide flat face of that reversed 155 lswc would smack hard..... AND a 165 jhp at 900 fps - while it wouldnt open up explosively, should penetrate rather well with modest expansion - right?

how 'bout it man?

if you load that I will buy a 45 Vaquero

250gr. Gold Dot at 1450fps, yikes. According to Speer, this bullet is designed for "lower velocities" and may over-expand at higher speeds. I wonder what this load does in 2" and 4" barrels. Hopefully, it will be closer to Speer's reload data velocity.

The 335gr. load sounds like a winner.

Does Mike have a 250gr. Gold Dot load at a lower velocity though?

Yes, the standard 45 Colt load will be @ 1100fps. Fortified received a three-pack of the (+P type of load for Ruger, FA, and TC only) loads.

.45 Colt

Our ol' Smith 25's, loaded with Speer 200gr. "Flying Ashtrays" @1000fps., was quite comforting...

Nice gun! My 625 Mtn Gun likes 250gr Gold Dots between 1050-1100 fps, and 200gr Corbon "flying ashtrays" at 1100 fps. I'm wanting to give the Corbon DPX a spin.

A few years ago the most common 45 Colt revolvers were Ruger Blackhawks and Bisleys. Today it seems like there are more Colt SAA clones than anything else.

Between my youngest son and I, we have 4 .45 Colt revolvers, 1 Blackhawk, 1 USFA, and 2 Beretta Stampedes. It is getting hard to find any .45 Colt factory loads other than the weak cowboy action loads.

I'd like to see a high quality, hard cast, true Keith bullet of about 255-260 grains loaded to 1000-1100 fps. This load would do 99% of anything that needs done with a .45 Colt, and this type load is not widely available.

I use a .44 Mag now, rarely shoot the .45 Colt barrel and don't have another gun in .45 Colt anymore.

So while I like that load, I wouldn't be ordering any from you.
do you feel you have done better with the 44 mag?explain.

Any word on the release of the standard pressure 45 Colts? Can't believe this thread was started over 2 years ago. Long wait!

Well, I just stumbled across this thread. For a factory offering I think the 300grWFN@1000fps would be just the ticket for field carry.

I just picked up one of the new Redhawk 4" 45's to go with my Blackhawk/Bisley. I already load all the hot stuff myself, but I think a bigger selection of factory hunting loads that can be fired in all those cowboy guns is just the thing needed.

I am working on a load now that uses a 405gr 45/70 bullet sized down to .451, trying to equal or get close to the 'weak' 45/70 load of the same weight. 900-1000fps is what I'm hoping for. I found an old water heater and tried a couple of rounds on it. It went all the way through.
