LP=Local Protocol

The class your local EMS Council teaches to let you do the stuff they forgot to teach you in the national EMT curriculum.

Ours for EMT-B is:
Glucogon
Aspirin
AED
Combi-Tube
Glucometer

I know the national curriculum has AED. But our local protocols differ. And differ from the state.

IN VIRGINIA:

FR=First Responder
EMT-B=EMT-Basic
EMT-E=EMT-Enhanced
EMT-I=EMT-Intermediate
EMT-P=EMT-Paramedic

Two old levels were

EMT-ST=Shock/Trauma Tech (Became Enhanced)
EMT-CT=EMT-Cardiac Tech (BEcame Intermediate)

The Enhanced people actually lost two drugs in our Council.....

Dont forget- In California, we do not use "traffic accident" or MVA. Its Traffic Collision or "T/C". And you can pair it up-

T/C w/injuries
T/C w/rescue
T/C Cut and Rescue
T/C Auto vs. Structure

And...

O/S- Out of Service. NOT- O.O.S.

From a slightly different, but equally important, angle:

WFR Wilderness First Responder
SAR Search and Rescue
IB Incident Base
IC Incident Commander
DC Death Code
MSU Make Stuff Up

I was taught that wilderness medicine means the protocols one uses, after being properly trained and certified, when the patient/subject cannot be transported to ALS within four hours.

Those protocols include measures that an EMT cannot perform in an ambulance setting, because the WFR is often deep in the back-country and MUST perform them to save the patient.

When all else fails, MSU.
