Good point. I'll go pick up an eight pound container of 800-X so he can load a few rounds.

Don't encourage him. Last week he splashed all of the water out of the pool.

"G" sometimes I never know what to expect so I expected everything!
With the "FACEOFF" It seems things are only skin deep!
Although keeping and ear to the ground should be easy with that arrangement!

They have opened one of the bays on the Marganza Spillway at 3pm...Water is now spilling into the spillway at 10,000 cubic feet per sec. They expect to open about 1/4 th of the 125 total bays!

Beauty may not be only skin deep ... but last time I checked, I'm not an x-ray scanner.

Shadow, at that 10K/sec rate, how long before you folks get a breather ? I know that the Miss is sending a whole lot more down than that.
Or is it just to relieve pressure on the levees ?

The Missouri floodway open, the Bonnet Carre floodway open, and now the Morganza open for only the 2nd time in its history. This may be the "big one" that has driven Mississippi River planning since 1928. Now we see if all the planning will succeed.

Looks like they didn't plan too well, or nobody would be evacuated or in danger of being flooded out. They figured what to do with the water, but it don't look like "people" were figured into the equasion !

The people in the wake of the Marganza/Atchafalaya Basins know that this could and would eventually happen...
They think that the Marganza spillway will eventually be siphoning 600K cubic feet per second from the river as they open more bays. Yes to relieve pressure on the levees, and hopefully maintain safer river vessel traffic. They had 25 barges break loose today in Baton Rouge and actually strike the Hwy 190 Mississippi river bridge, they were quickly rounded up, thank goodness. With it open it should stabilize the water level (I think was 43.2') and the 1.5 Million cubic foot per second flow at Baton Rouge. The river is forecast to crest there at 47.5 feet on May 22. EXXON refinery has slowed it production down by 9.9% this doesn't help fuel prices either. Crops being damaged thru out the river valley north to south will impact food prices too!
Since the Bonnet Carre spillway was opened it has stabilized the water level to about 16.7' and 1.2 million cubic foot per second flow.
This will be a long term event in the spillways and based on river levels dropping to close the gates and then having the land drain off over time!
Opening the spillway slowly helps to get animal life moving out of the affected areas, rabbits were runnin' deer were runnin' and people will be runnin' too!

38 years since the Morganza floodway was last used; that is plenty of time for people to get comfortable and forget how powerful nature can be.
The animals bailing out of the area must have been a sight! Perhaps the animals are wiser than some people.

Well just got out of the tub, Today was blessed with beautiful sunshine and cool breezes. Tooks advantage of the situation and stripped the shingles off my 24'x30' shop roof, I was suppose to do this ever since Hurricane Katrina messed up the edges.
Got all the shingles off the worst side, in the morning I'll be taking the old tar paper off, inspecting for loose nails or needed repairs, then re-tarpapering and new drip edge and starter strips & new shingles. Then jumping to the other side, thinking of adding on about 10' to the other side, place to put the boat and lawn and garden equipment.
Using the old shingles to prepare a new place to park the travel trailer.
Take care guys and gals!

You will find that every once in a while you just hit a really good binge and just can't speak for a bit, that's all.

Thanks for the concerns...The Shadow is OK, other than being sore from climbing up and down scafolding, walking the roof, laying tar paper...But the most important part was I got to shoot some...
Yes! I got to shoot some 3 1/2" nails with the air nailer , when I get my shingles I get to shoot some coils of roofing nails...

You probably just about shot up all of your nails before you even got your shingles didn't you?

Don't worry. The 8:40pm in-crowd refers to us as the "Quad D's"; only the out-crowd common rabble 9-and-40 shooters are forced to use that D-D-D-D terminology.

You're going to have to work on that, the board in charge of acceptance into quad D frowns upon sobriety for the most part, sets a bad tone for the rest of the partying type 10 ringers ( pardon the redundancy)

Admit it. A lot of us could completely relate to that statement.
