Ditto. Love my Gen4 21. However, I couldn't stop there. Also have a 30sf for CCW and have just started shooting a G41. Installing a red dot sight on it tonight.

Go to a range and shoot each variant until you find the one you like.

Rent a 1911 and give it a try. A great single action only trigger is something to behold.

If I wanted a .45 JUST for a fun/target shooter, I'd get an STI Spartan 1911.

However, if I planned on carrying it or using it for HD, I'd probably be looking at the M&P45 mid and compact. They just seem much more comfortable in my hand than any of the glocks with 10+ capacity.

I have 1911s and probably always will. However for EDC I prefer my 30s. A good 1911 is a joy to shoot and can be a work of art to some extent. When my life is on the line, give me simplicity and absolute reliability. Glocks aren't and never will be pretty but they do work and with a little polishing of the action and some range time they can be quite enjoyable and absolutely reliable.

It will be a Gen4 21 with a slim slide. Having come from the 1911 world I prefer the slimmer slide. That didn't keep me from getting a Gen3 21, followed by a Gen3 21SF, followed by a 30SF which got a 36 slide and that was the best set-up until the 30S. The 30/36 and then the 30S replaced a G23 which had replaced a 1911. I was a happy camper with the 30S.

Then along came a 41 which is great but doesn't come out of the holster as quickly as the 30S. Sooo, I'll EDC the 30S until GLOCK puts a thin slide on the 21. Then who knows??

I like the idea of a 1911, they're sweet guns to be sure, but I'm not a really big person and I don't think I would every be able to comfortably carry one. As for the H&K's, I would love to give one a try, I hear nothing but good things, but they're a little on the pricey side from what I've seen... I'm thinking the G30s is the ticket but I agree with most of you, I really need to try them out first. Only problem is I don't have a rental range anywhere around here so I'll have to find people at the range willing to let me try out their gun.. On the other hand I'd love to have the 21 just because it's THE glock .45 acp, or the 41 for that matter because I absolutely love my 35..

I need more money...that would make my decision much easier. I am accepting donations, lol.

A regular G30 such as the 30SF or Gen 4 G30 might be slightly more "do it all" than the 30S. I say this based on the multi-caliber options available for the full-size slide, compared to the thin slide of the 30S.

Agree with renting first if possible, or consider pre-owned if finances are tight. I just posted in the general forum section about some used HK UPS 45's from GT Distributors in Dallas for $550. They can ship or the Georgia location has actually posted them on GB. Not very concealable though if thats part of your consideration.

I am not convinced that a G21 would be appreciably easier to carry than a 1911 as long as either were in a decent holster. My guess is that if you bring your guns, some ammo and some .45 ammunition that an offer to someone who has a .45 to shoot your gun would most often be met with a counter offer to try shooting theirs.

I have a Kimber, but don't carry it. Browning was a genius when he designed the 1911, so I have one in my collection for that reason. It's a tack-driver, but needs to be thoroughly cleaned after each range visit.

My choice: Glock 30SF if you're going to carry. Otherwise, the 21 as many others on this thread have recommended.

My choice is a Gen4 Glock 21. Go down to your LGS and just handle one. They come with 4 different back straps for your grip, I like it the way it comes. I use an Comp-Tac Belt Holster, zero cant with a 1 3/4" Beltman belt. The rig rides high and tight. Wearing a loose sweater it is possible to CCW. Anyway look at a G4 G21 before you buy. The Glock 30S is what I ccw daily. For a shooter, range, HD weapon, hands down you really can't beat a Gen4 Glock21 45acp.General GlockingGeneral Glocking

If "All around" includes any CCW, then I would lean towards the G30 personally.

Having had 3 different G-30 models(regular, SF, and 30s) I can say G21 Gen4! I sold all my 30 models and stayed with the 21. Great shooting gun that is not difficult to conceal as some may lead you to believe. 14 rounds of .45 is tough to beat. Let us know your decision.

The Glock 30SF is the most versatile .45acp around IMO.
