Truckers, will this catch on?

The future of trucking? Gas turbine, super aero, center line drive.

But will drivers accept it? Certainly someone like wall-mart could force the issue with the savings it could attain. But will they?

i think anyone will accept anything that improves on old designs and makes getting more money faster at a cheaper go round .

Man, I want one just to be in the cool cockpit. However, that much carbon fiber is incredibly expensive.

The future of trucking is rail, to the extent that class I's have any interest and the shortlines and II's and III's can provide equipment and manpower. Pretty big limitations on converting truck volume to rail these days.

I still wonder how you deal with heavy haul flatbed and oversize loads that need high torque low speed operation. And that's a culture that only accepts KW and Autocar. Autocar is already at least 20 years out of production and still on the road. This likely makes it look good to be a diesel mechanic. Gas turbines are not fuel efficient.

It's not propelled by the turbine; it is a series electric vehicle. The turbine drives a generator to charge the batteries and/or power the drive motor. In this capacity, operating at a single speed tuned to the generator, a turbine would be ideal.

Also, electric drive motors are great at launching heavy loads off the line. That's why locomotives are diesel-electric; it's much better to have an electric motor pulling you from a standstill than it is to try to clutch a train.

And electric traction motors are ideal for producing copious amounts of torque.
